A quick numbers review.
Eight years ago there was a field of seventeen repugnican hopefuls for the party nomination. They were all in the single digits, led by Jeb at 4%. cheeto was at 1~2%, like everyone else.
Two things happened: a tape was released of the "p*ssy-grab" audio from cheeto, and then his video of his judgement of mexicans who were "drug dealers, rapists, and mebbe a few good ones". I thought that was the end of him; instead, he suddenly shot up to a 20% or so Approval rating in my own party, and I was left saying WTF?!? he started knocking off contenders as we marched thru the Primaries, the koch brothers (may they be reunited soon!) dropped their financial support of Jeb (Top-3 memorable quote of my lifetime: "We're not going to support anyone who can't do things for Us!") (Remember that, always remember that).
He won the nomination. Then the election!! WTFFFFF?!!!!!
Right now, traitor has 60-some% of the approval of my party (at this point, because I live in UT, I remain registered R only to be able to vote against incumbents in my own party, during the Primaries; I cannot/do no longer support the Fascist Party that the R's have become).
What's going to change, this Primary season for the R's? Nothing, from what I can see. It's early in the season, but the trumplicans aren't looking at facts, nor the Constitution; they've become a cult. he can't win the general election but he has enough "plants" throughout our state governments to make the election results contested, and very violent in the end.
The biggest hope for our Democracy is for our DoJ to finally pull their head out of their ass, and indict/arrest/convict/imprison the traitor. Yes, there will be violence from that too, but hopefully our system can tamp that down. I'm not sure, but it's my biggest hope.

I thought the Hulu documentary on the Liberty University and the Falwell scandal(s) explained pretty well what likely happened with the boost Trump received from evangelicals. The documentary goes in a few directions, but I thought it was enlightening (if not salacious) and recommend. DEBATE PREP — The RNC released its list of qualifications for the Republican presidential primary debates yesterday, laying out what each candidate will need to do in order to make it on stage for the first debate on Aug. 23. For one, they’ll have to agree to back the eventual Republican nominee and skip any outside debates.
They’ll also have until Aug. 21 to meet several tough criteria: (1)garner donations from at least 40,000 contributors nationally; (3)have “at least 200 unique donors per state or territory in 20+ states and/or territories”; and (3) poll above 1% in three national polls, or two national polls and a state poll taken after July 1.
