Not sure if you remember this or not since we both have been around here for quite a while, but based on all the hype that you and Stike used to give on the forum about Pearls I ordered large ($100 orders) twice. I had even sold gaskets to that fellow whose name now escapes me for that cart with the large BGE where he cooked those Pearls near Boston where you guys met for lunch in some park!!!fishlessman said:

I appealed to Pearls and that went nowhere...Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

that was fred of freds franks, havent been down there in a long time. sold the truck and it went down hill. the star on the truck was the fresh chourico made by a local butcher near there. pearls are the best we have now, in a pinch i will simmer hebrew nationals, then toss them on the grill. simmer to remove some salt, chill in ice water, then grill.

We only eat hotdogs maybe average once a month. Wife eats one I have two. So buns go to waste and when I go to Costco if the timing is right I get the dog and drink for $1.50 can’t beat it. I’ve bought the Kirkland Quarter pounder’s before and the wife doesn’t finish one. But after this thread we had a Costco run already planned and picked up the Kirkland regular size dinner franks, set for a year. 🌭Jacksonville FL

I backpack and hike a fair amount. One of the things I have started doing is dehydrating hotdogs as a “beef stick”. Not gonna lie. It’s slick. Everyone who try’s it is fairly floored by them. Nothing fancy. Kirkland All Beef, dehydrate at lowest setting in my dehydrator. Totally changes the flavor. Much “beefier”. Maybe this won't appeal to you but the trick I learned on this very forum was to purchase your hotdog and hamburger buns when you know they are fresh... Then carefully pull them apart and wrap each bun individually in Saran Wrap. Then place those buns in a freezer proof bag and freeze them!!!
HONESTLY - when you want FRESH buns then after thawing them they will be just as soft as when you bought them! I've even tried some that got hidden in the back of our freezer 3 month later!
Thawing time??? 2 or 3 hours on your kitchen counter! They seem to thaw just about as fast as they freeze!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

Was at the ole Costco today and took these pics bc someone said they liked the beef dinner franks. We buy the regular bun sized beef hot dogs bc the quarter pounders are a tad more than my boys like to eat.Hot dog combo for $1.50 is the best deal around. Always try to get one of those if it’s around lunch or dinner time.
I do like a good Nathan’s or Hebrew National ever so often - when they run them on sale.
Hotdogs charged a little on the grill are the only way to go for me. -

Bread will freeze for 180 days with very little quality drop upon defrosting. Will try freezing some buns agin this time and see how they store. In the past I could tell the difference, maybe my vac seal bags would work better than the original packaging. I’m in transportation and we haul a lot of frozen bakery goods so I know it’s done regularly but have had less than optimal results refreezing in the past. Maybe I waited too long before I froze them.Jacksonville FL

While we are on the subject I also freeze leftover English muffins - BUT I have had best results freezing then unwrapped for 24 hours and then seal in Food Saver bags. Freezing first will help to keep them from flattening down from the vacuum - though I do hit the sealer button quickly before all the air is out.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Ahhhh, preservatives. Mainly a product called shelf life extender. A loaf of sliced bread/pack of hotdog buns or hamburger buns can last 14-17 days with ease now. was watching a young kid (assistant manager) explain to a sixty something older guy working the bread isle to check the sell by dates on every loaf in the store and remove the expired ones. guy was swearing and saying theres nothing wrong with these loafs
was going to take him days before starting over....

So, I googled "hot dog beef stick dehydrator" and all of the hits were for actual dog treats made in a dehydrator.
Give us the details! Marinade? Cut in pieces? Time? Temperature? Injection?
I have been resisting the urge for an air fryer, but I understand that they will also dehydrate.
I'm going to have to find a girlfriend with a big kitchen....

Very complicated—-open package. Set dehydrator to lowest setting (95) or put in fridge uncovered. One of my pals grew up in Buffalo NY. He always said Sahlens were the best and brought some back when he visited. I've had them a couple of times and they are excellent. If you can find them give them a try.A poor widows son.
