I need to get out more.  That comment is compounded with the fact that I am simplifying my life but will seek and acquire a Calumet Farms brown water pour-just because I can.  Thank you to all for the spend-at least this is not a hardware rig 

@JohnfromKentucky - If I find that the price point is way up there I likely won't buy and won't seek out a place to taste (many available here -as you know).  I have no hard limits so I will see what I find.
I do appreciate your approach as it rings true for the high end pours.  Being old I have run through most of that stable.

I'll add that these smaller producers will absolutely get a premium for the higher age stated product. They just can't do the volume that the giants do in order to lower the burden. That said, I use this thinking as a justification for overpaying a bit as I convince myself that I doing semi-philanthropic work by helping these smaller boutique type producers continue their work.

The other thing some of these smaller producers are doing is cutting our the secondary  market.  They let the market dictate what they can get away with when it comes to the price.

Yeah, there’s no doubt that I over pay for quite a few bottles actually. At least I do so willingly and knowingly. It’s more than just a great drink for me it’s a hobby of sorts. I absolutely have some limits and boundaries. I try to not buy from the real egregious  offenders. Most of the best value stuff is not new or boutique. It’s generally heritage stuff like four roses, wild turkey, knob creek, old forester, etc. I would suggest however that these new producers have motivated many of the heritage brands to up their game. There is a ton of innovative offerings like what makers mark is doing. All in all, it sucks that many of our old favorites are much harder to come by and sometimes ridiculously priced, but there is also an upside with the new stuff to explore. 🥃

I generally don’t overpay too much for the BTAC stuff. 175 for Blantons is a no go for me as well. I just know I’m overpaying for some of the smaller distillery offerings based upon price to quality analysis. It’s not usually a grotesque amount but it’s overpriced relative to what you can get from bigger distilleries. That said, they have to charge more because often they are buying the juice from others or their capacity is far less than the big boys. There are definitely situations as described earlier however where they capitalize on some buzz and milk a significant amount out of folks. Good news is you don’t have to buy it if you don’t want.

You got it!    I could give 2 💩💩 what people are spending their money on but I try to not get too crazy.   Not saying it hasn’t happened but what we have all discussed previously in the BT offerings I know how I personally value them.

Just for the record when I say “you” I didn’t necessarily mean you. Just anyone, like in the general sense. Just didn’t want to give you the idea it was a personal judgement or anything. I’m with you, “live and let live” who really cares anyway, right?

I was killing some time the other day and walked into a store I had never been in. Their selection was ok but behind the register they had a bottle of eagle rare ($99), EH Taylor SB ($120), Larceny BP ($129) and 1792 12yr ($499). The owner asked if I needed help. Said no thanks and walked out. I wanted to ask him if he ever thought he was actually going to sell those at that price but figured what’s the point. 

@ColbyLang that’s a dandy!    I think, but would need to review, my wife wanted the Outer Banks or maybe something else.   4 door.  Removable hard top blah blah.  

@ColbyLang The Bronco upcharge must be for that optional pole.

Absolutely agree.   Thankfully this was a gift from the future SIL—I wouldn’t have paid that price.  Glad the daughter is marrying a good guy with taste and appreciation.
