I need to get out more.  That comment is compounded with the fact that I am simplifying my life but will seek and acquire a Calumet Farms brown water pour-just because I can.  Thank you to all for the spend-at least this is not a hardware rig  B)

There is a Bourbon Barrel Tavern here in Elizabethtown that has a decent selection. I go there when I want to try something before I buy....oh heck, who am I kidding, I can't afford to spend what some of these cost per bottle.

@JohnfromKentucky - If I find that the price point is way up there I likely won't buy and won't seek out a place to taste (many available here -as you know).  I have no hard limits so I will see what I find.
I do appreciate your approach as it rings true for the high end pours.  Being old I have run through most of that stable.

@pgprescott - all I know of Calumet is that the farm ( around 65 miles from here) is the home of the 1941 and 1948 Triple Crown winners Whirlaway and Citation.
Their thoroughbred business took many hits in the recent past but the fundamental farm/stable seems to be on solid ground today.  FWIW-
I’m a fan of this 15. I also have the 14 which is sweeter, less oak influenced. I just picked up a new 16. Worth the price of admission imo. I was aware of the lineage in horse racing as I have a buddy in your back yard who’s family had some horses race at Churchill downs in past generations.
I have a bottle of the small batch (8 & 14yr blend) that I found to be ok.  The flavors are nice, but for $80 I was expecting a bit from it.  Finding it hard to pony up for the older ones.  My regular stops have plenty bottles of the 14-16.  Most of the online reviews I seen are mixed.  Those who liked the 15 don't care as much for the 16 and those who like the 16 didn't care for the 15.
I'll add that these smaller producers will absolutely get a premium for the higher age stated product. They just can't do the volume that the giants do in order to lower the burden. That said, I use this thinking as a justification for overpaying a bit as I convince myself that I doing semi-philanthropic work by helping these smaller boutique type producers continue their work.

    Well good on you.

The other thing some of these smaller producers are doing is cutting our the secondary  market.  They let the market dictate what they can get away with when it comes to the price.

My local honey hole will sell allocations to certain customers (lucky me). The remaining allocations get put into gift baskets where people pay secondary pricing from a retail establishment. I don’t agree with it, but I also understand supply and demand. If you feel like paying $175 for a bottle Of Blanton’s, you do you

Yeah, there’s no doubt that I over pay for quite a few bottles actually. At least I do so willingly and knowingly. It’s more than just a great drink for me it’s a hobby of sorts. I absolutely have some limits and boundaries. I try to not buy from the real egregious  offenders. Most of the best value stuff is not new or boutique. It’s generally heritage stuff like four roses, wild turkey, knob creek, old forester, etc. I would suggest however that these new producers have motivated many of the heritage brands to up their game. There is a ton of innovative offerings like what makers mark is doing. All in all, it sucks that many of our old favorites are much harder to come by and sometimes ridiculously priced, but there is also an upside with the new stuff to explore. 🥃

I agree with @ColbyLang I won't pay excessively for a bottle of anything you will literally piss away.    $175 for Blanton's when a local liquor store's allocation is 6 bottles at $55 each (most current market price).

My wife is currently frustrated with me b/c she wants a new Ford Bronco (not the sport--the beefier version).     I built it online for a whopping $42.     Local dealerships are asking $62k for it and I just refuse to pony up.

However, I fully appreciate the "to each their own".     Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...

I generally don’t overpay too much for the BTAC stuff. 175 for Blantons is a no go for me as well. I just know I’m overpaying for some of the smaller distillery offerings based upon price to quality analysis. It’s not usually a grotesque amount but it’s overpriced relative to what you can get from bigger distilleries. That said, they have to charge more because often they are buying the juice from others or their capacity is far less than the big boys. There are definitely situations as described earlier however where they capitalize on some buzz and milk a significant amount out of folks. Good news is you don’t have to buy it if you don’t want.

You got it!    I could give 2 💩💩 what people are spending their money on but I try to not get too crazy.   Not saying it hasn’t happened but what we have all discussed previously in the BT offerings I know how I personally value them.

I was killing some time the other day and walked into a store I had never been in. Their selection was ok but behind the register they had a bottle of eagle rare ($99), EH Taylor SB ($120), Larceny BP ($129) and 1792 12yr ($499). The owner asked if I needed help. Said no thanks and walked out. I wanted to ask him if he ever thought he was actually going to sell those at that price but figured what’s the point.

@ColbyLang that’s a dandy!    I think, but would need to review, my wife wanted the Outer Banks or maybe something else.   4 door.  Removable hard top blah blah.

I get ford X plan pricing via my job but ford won’t honor it on the Broncos.    The last several I have found on the let’s have been $62 and up.   No sir.  I just won’t spend 50% increase due to a chip shortage or new market entry vehicle.

Having said all this, the Bronco ranches are cool as hell.   The Texas one is 2 miles away from my in-laws.   Been there a couple times for giggles.

Hers is the Outer Banks Lux. Soft top for now. Hard top when Ford makes readily available. She loves it. Right under 5,000 miles. We paid 52k. Got offered 70 before we signed for it

Great rye. This is definitely one that squeezes some bills out my wallet. Gots me a couple. Definitely overpriced but quite good.

Absolutely agree.   Thankfully this was a gift from the future SIL—I wouldn’t have paid that price.  Glad the daughter is marrying a good guy with taste and appreciation.
