Our small group of engineers, draftsmen, and technicians made modifications to the hardware/SW and drawings requested by NASA (Cost plus contract was great). Eventually wrote modification instructions for technicians to complete and verified updates to the mylar drawings, if you remember those.  Convinced our boss to convert any affected drawings from Mylar to PDF as a cost saving measure. No more printing, folding, and distributing F and E size (or other size documents), thus being able to share on the NASA network the drawings and the Modification Instruction Packages as they were being completed. During that time frame I worked for the United Space Alliance Corporation. 

I was pulled into the Constellation project to help develop electronic maintenance procedures and then train technicians to do the modification work for their systems, using tablets instead of paper. This allowed managers to view the status of work as it was being performed in order to manage work across shifts. When I left as part of the final group being laid off, I had worked exactly 40 years at KSC. Started as a technician and ended my career there as a Technical Analyst IV, which was as high as I could go with an AA and an AS degree. It was a fun ride.

That wasn't the end of my work life. I was offered a short term contract to at the KSC Visitor Center to set up an electronic data base of all the hardware in the Atlantis building that would require maintenance. Then all the hardware at the visitor center that required maintenance.  Another contract to actually write the annual, semi-annual, monthly and daily maintenance for Atlantis and then the visitor center hardware. Of course, it was all going to be available on tablets as well as their network. So that meant training the technicians to use the tablets. When my part of that effort was completed I finally retired.
