Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Sounds like you have a good nose for high quality charcoal, including the pure, imported Canadian stuff. That is my go-to when I’m looking for a fix. I like your style, Frank!lousubcap said:Here's a link to 10% off this weekend:

@GrateEggspectations - I have tried to get my hands on Maple Leaf many times including before I ordered the Basques. I'm on the wrong side of the border for Maple Leaf but found a Basques dealer in upstate New York. Done deal. The aroma coming off maple charcoal in quite distinct and enjoyable.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. Holy crap! That price is insane! I could use some more Rockwood. I’m getting low. I usually order through Ace. I’m going to have to check the price. If it’s gone up that much I will have to find a new lump.NW IOWA
-
Meh. It's still cheaper at Ace. $29 vs 35 - both with free shipping.
-
I agree the price is surprising, but the margin is no more than it was back in the day when shipping was cheap. Long gone are the days of $20-25/bag charcoal with free shipping from Firecraft--because of DIM weight implementation 4-5 yrs ago. That destroyed a lot of online companies because they couldn't compete with Amazon (Firecraft included.)Philly35 said:Holy crap! That price is insane! I could use some more Rockwood. I’m getting low. This year we've had to do two wholesale price increases because we've gotten hit on everything. We've received FIVE price increases this year on our paper bags. Plus increases on wood, string, stretch wrap, pallets, cardboard, and the biggest one that effects everything......diesel fuel.
As far as the online price goes, our Fedex rates are up (oftentimes over half of the sale price goes to the "free shipping".) The only way I was able to justify a sale this weekend is because I didn't have to try to find or pay for OT labor (because good luck on that!!).......it was me and my four young children doing all the packaging. So no labor expense and they can't quit or refuse to work weekends. hahahaha
I say all this not to justify MY price on my charcoal, just more for everyone in the US that's trying to make or sell anything at this point. It's not price gouging, it's inflation, shortages, fuel prices, etc.....and it's getting f'n scary. Based off what I see in the supply chain and logistics world, I fear there's a rough year ahead for working families. Whatever you may need in the next year, buy now if you are able to find it, afford it, and store it. -
@stlcharcoal I hope I wasn’t coming off as rude, as that wasn’t my intention. You are right, everything has gone up. So has healthcare. Everything but my wages.NW IOWA

No worries....had others asking what the deal was. Just wanted everybody to know it was legit. Buckle up, it's not gonna get better anytime soon.Philly35 said:@stlcharcoal I hope I wasn’t coming off as rude, as that wasn’t my intention. You are right, everything has gone up. So has healthcare. Here was the first wave for the AM pickup....Fedex had to send two trucks today, and we had UPS here for the rest. Anybody on the forum that included their username or I recognized, shipped today. And Frank, your box has the usual labeling "Leave at Garage....Do not approach home.....Addressee is a nudist that likes to hug".

@stlcharcoal - Your note worked last time. Although on the next order please add after the drop to ring the doorbell for the personal thank you.

Can confirm all of these increases. It’s been a wild year to be in the consumer goods world.stlcharcoal said:

Got to keep the “Marxist Theorist academicians” from totally ruining the forum that we all supported in the past.
