    Back to my fling.....  😎

    Egg shapes.

After the holidays I'll take SmoBot #2 and give her a do over.  No reset button tho.  Promise.

Maybe post it in a fresh thread without the rama?

That one was too obvious for us.... We seem to let the most obvious things slip by.

I mean even Tex's comment about the Captcha slipped passed the goalie.  It was well over an hour before that one caught up to me.

Well, I tell you what.  She sure is hard to resist.  I was up late last night, foolin' around a little with the SmoBot.

I took one of these - https://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-CP2102-Converter-Adapter-Downloader/dp/B00LODGRV8/  plugged into my PC

Connected it to the through-holes labeled UART2

Found this!  I'd imagine this is available via the network also, for 3rd party apps?

There are some pins on the front of the device that I'll hook up my CP2012 USB to as well.

I found this on boot partitions:

    https://sming.readthedocs.io/en/latest/_inc/Sming/Components/rboot/index.html?highlight=reset button#slot-2-gpio-slot

    Well, enough tech.

Let's get to SmoBot Thanksgiving 2020 here at BrentM's house.

I'm gonna roll with this here stack I think.  I have the 13" CGS stone on the bottom, and a thinner stone on the top as the shelf.  It fits in there nicely! and I definitely like the CGS spiders.

    Here's SmoBot's "pit" probe attached.

Can I rant a moment?  The quality on the alligator clips is excellent.  It's hard to find good alligator clips, and this one is a good one!!!  The teeth line up nicely.  Firm spring action.  What's not to love?  These would be great for helping hands.

I'm stilling learning here.... but this is where I set my draft door.

    Set for 325.....

Tune in tomorrow or so for the exciting conclusion of Thanksgiving when we take this ugly thing and turn it into a version of Mad Max.  I hope to take lots of food porn.

I'd also like to say, thank you - to all of you - for.... everything.

So from our home to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.

I'd probably just play CLAW on the upper right triple word.  All O's are taken  so you have no chance of playing ZOA on that upper right triple. One blank left but you may not get that so hope to drop the ZA combo later or you could play ZEN (it used to unacceptable but zen is now an officially acceptable word as of 2018) on the bottom of RENEGE.
Good luck! Me and my wife play Scrabble every night after dinner. It can be a maddening game at times!

Also, unless you have a really leaky gasket I'd suggest keeping your bottom vent at about the 50% mark when using the Smobot. The additional air available thru the bottom helps the top damper respond more readily with more air available to flow.

@HeavyG without a pic, I don’t know if I can believe you play scrabble every night.  Or that you eat dinner.  I think I’m starting to believe the rumors that you are Steven Raichlen.

Thanksgiving conclusion below, and special announcement.

Well, I promised you all some food porn, and I humbly submit this Thanksgiving feast to you from our home this year.  The photos will not stand up to the other photos of food porn on this site; you guys are hard core about the food thing.  How about the BBQ controller thing tho, huh? do ya do ya?

Ok..  Next year she's getting a spray tan before photos.

Full throttle after lifting the lid....

Back to SmoBot....  I felt the urge to clean the daisy wheel.

    9mm wrench

    just hot water

I used a scrubber about one step less abrasive than a 3M scour pad on the daisy wheel, and it appears to have not scratched the surface finish.

    Well that concludes Thanksgiving.

My special announcement?  I have a free domain coupon at Wix and hosting for a year.  Maybe I should take PigBeanUs advice and .... something about "do the tests... run the report"....

So rather than post the original content here, I'll host it on a blog format on my own site and announce the post with a link here.  You know, that one hour timelock was fun for a while..

And that FlameBoss?  Yeah, she needs to go under the microscope too.

I'm giving this to Lex tho, when I'm done.  He came over last week sometime and we caught up.  He'd removed his Stoker II from the smoker that went up, but the cables were still in the liquidtight, and the 25CFM blower was toast.  I think he'd left it outside.

So anyway, he just gives me all his Stoker stuff after not using it for so long....  6 or 8x expander, extension cable, the works.  We laughed about his smoker fire.  I guess he caught it in time, but given the time of day; I'm sure Lex was schnockered.

So anyway, Lex.  This FlameBoss 500 + upgraded blower is yours for Christmas.  Just for being you, and freaking me the hell out with your smoker fire...... but I gotta put her under the 'scope.

Help me think of a domain name.

Great looking grub! Glad it turned out nicely, despite all the controller issues.

I definitely recommend hosting your findings on a blog site or something. Is iliketalkingtomyself.com available? =)

    Thank you!!

Yeah, it turns out that domain is available.  It's a little long tho, don't you think?  And I like to fill unfilled niches' or cracks.

And I thought about what @HeavyG said.... more of an "AvE"-type review.  I'll cut the AvE lyrics, but give you the straight dope.

    For instance...

The SmoBot has an electrolytic capacitor on it...  it looks like it's for "....use in circuit here..."  and it appears to be a quality part, from a quality manufacturer.  Kemet in this case.  But who knows what's inside FlameBoss?

And what happens if I get some bits and hook up a programmer to this???

And we also have the exciting conclusion of the security analysis.

But here's the deal... it doesn't work without an audience.

How many customers complained to deaf ears about the non-SSL site on SmoBot?  How many would bet a prized body part that someone has already seen the same issue, sent an email about it, and been directed to the SSL site?

Why did I get a different response?  Or am I really the only person to notice?  Did they fix it?  Did they completely resolve the issue, or just patch it?

I dunno, I feel like those who are interested could help bring some maturity to an niche industry that I feel, could really use some maturity right about now.  Low hanging fruit is usually picked first.

buy it for me @JohnInCarolina and I'll host a mirror of the content there.

Anyone heard the story about CCLeaner?  Piriform CCleaner?  CrapCleaner?  I mean, every IT person woke up that morning in a cold sweat.....  No one remembers?

Your lack of concern is alarming gentleman.... and mildly amusing.

What level of concern should I have if I’ve never used a controller?

@lkapigian - technically rent?  can you sell your rental apartment to the highest bidder?  c'mon - don't hate me because I'm right, partner.

and @legume I suppose, my friend, if you take all precautions.  and you use your head as the controller, then you're in "manual".  But I could still use your backup assistance in the memery.

I can't promise the content is going to be fast and furious.  And maybe I'll skip the unboxing portion and "what's this button do? durrr?"  but you know.  I know one or two things about something and I think you might find it interesting.

No ads, no trackers, no sponsors.  Just me.  Solo.

(I already heard from a couple of ya, so it's game on).

Thanks Tex - I sincerely appreciate everyone's support.

As much as I am being theatrical, I really do have concerns.  I guess we fixed all the "bonehead" things from Rock's Stoker already.  I just want to fix some other things so I can confidently recommend a controller to a friend of mine without thinking they could be exposing themselves to risk (albeit online or physical).

    That's all.

    And I'll do this too..... rather than finding/exposing.  I'll find/responsibly disclose/wait/fix/report.

    The drama was fun tho.

*It can be difficult, without an interested audience, to draw attention to security related concerns when businesses face competing priorities.
