Does spending enough money on equipment to cook like a pro count?  No?  I didn't think so.  Oh well, then better count me out.

Dad had 4 restaurants and a catering business growing up. Breakfast and lunch places, think Mel's diner. One was a country convenience store with a grill and on premise beer and wine. I rode herd on that flustercluck (dollar flat pints of Richards Wild Irish Rose) Sat nights. That was an education in humanity.

Worked at an “Orange Bowl” in the Springfield Mall in 82, was a cheap knock-off of Orange Julius, sh!ttiest food I’ve ever eaten, me & my buddy smoked reefer non-stop & it all came crashing down when he poured about a ½ cup of dish washing liquid into the fountain to “see what would happen”

I think I may have wet my pants

I watched her shows for two and a half years before I noticed she had a head. The whole time I kept wondering where all the noise was coming from.

A month or two mess duty in the service. No sex, drugs or women. Just a bunch a angry, sweaty jarheads dumping boxes of frozen grey meat labeled 'for institutional use only' into huge steam-fed caldrons. We would walk across the courtyard to the barracks at FC555 and have three of four beers for lunch (I mean, it's not like you were going to eat that slop). The afternoons were much more tolerable.

I had the benefit of my roommate working at sub and a bagel shop when we were young. I unfortunately got him fired when he was secret shopped by the company as he gave me a free meal daily. It probably didn't help that he'd sit down with me and shoot the breeze with me while I was eating. He still brings it up and gives me crap for getting him fired.

It's not a restaurant related story but thought I might add a little something from my past job...

When I was younger I had a summer off and needed some work before going back to school. So I took a senior living center driving position. I essentially would have to drive all these elderly people around to their doctor appointments or other small errands. So the senior living housing facility gave me a Mercury Grand Marquis to drive around. A big boat of a car. It drove like a dream. So one day I had to take out a blind elderly gentleman and his seeing dog to the bank. Easy enough. The elderly gentleman finishes his business in the bank and comes back into the car. I start to leave the bank parking lot and roll to a stop at the stop sign. Waiting to pull out on busy mainstreet. Mind you I'm driving this big Grand Marquis car. I think I may have had my left arm propped up on the door. For some reason I use my right hand and stick it through the huge steering wheel to turn on the blinker. As soon as I reach for the blinker with my arm in the steering wheel I see an opening in traffic. So I punch the gas and use my left arm to steer out into traffic. I unfortunately didn't get my right arm out of the steering wheel quick enough when pulling out onto mainstreet. My arm got lodged into the steering wheel for a split second where the Mercury Grand Marquis turned hard right and jumped the curb. I had to the whole front end of the car up on the curb. So the car went bouncing up and down. Next thing I know I hear the older blind gentleman go, "What happened?" In that split second I realized he didn't see my dumb a$$ get my arm locked in the steering wheel. My response, "WE ALMOST HIT A DEER!!!!!" Was I supposed to tell the guy my arm was stuck in the steering wheel? That poor guy. We actually had a really good relationship. I really miss the job. I enjoyed talking with all the older residents when driving around and learning from them. Other than almost hitting a "deer" they were in safe hands. ;)

And after the close of the draft...didn't know that.  He!! the challenge today is that around 70% of the 18-24 year old age pool can't qualify and most not for the ASVAB (intell) piece.
