OT-a song that evokes the best of your earlier life...OT (first posted Sep 2015)
For some reason I have this urge to crank out the oldies today. Recalled this thread topic from years ago and figured WTH. So here you go.
Fueling up for escape velocity but thought it might be enlightening to see who has "the song" that reminds them of their life when it was a whole lot more innocent than now. Disclaimer-I have accumulated several laps of the sun but when I hear the following

I love anything off the Stand by Me soundtrack.
My music interest is all over the board but whenever Yakety Yak or Mr Lee or Lollipop come on, everything seems right with the world.

There are 2 songs that come to mind, first iOn the Road Again and the second is with a little help from my friends.
On the road again is a song my grandfather cranked in is Chevy truck. The other reminds me of watching the wonder years and eating popcorn with my grandparents

While it's a "newer" song it will take you back to your younger days. It's call 21 by Corey Smith. Check it out on YouTube or any streaming service.

Leon Russell: Any song off of 'Hank Wilson's Back'. I still love that album and it takes me back to family gatherings when I was a kid.

I checked out his youtube video within the week or so thru a post on this site. Perhaps you posted it there? So true. Thanks for the suggestion.
BTW - recall a couple of years ago asking if you were around when Walt "Clyde the Glide" Frazier played B'ball at Southern Illinois-I quickly learned that I really am old 😎

I vividly remember riding the school bus and our bus driver would have the radio on. Whenever this came on, and it was in heavy rotation and was on often, there was a whole bus load of kids singing way out loud. Good times a very long time ago.

All 90's country like Garth Brooks, "Rodeo" or Travis Tritt, "It's a Great Day to be Alive" reminds me of childhood.
Guns 'n Roses, "Welcome to the Jungle" reminds me of my time on the USS Trenton. (It was the 'ships song' and played on repeat during on-rats, when every Jarhead on ship formed a chain from the flight deck to the belly of the beast)
Eric Clapton, "Wonderful Tonight", my wedding day.
Welp, Captain, Henry McKenna it is. Thanks for the suggestion.

As a 90's kid, I'm going to have to go with Ice Cube's - It Was A Good Day.
It's "Smokin Gal", not "Smoking Al".

OMFG!! My first "serious" album (so I'm discounting that Partridge Family thing) and even had to pick up a CD copy a few years back.
My first "happiest time" music was a car cassette I made in about '78: Boston's first album on Side 1, and the Doobie Bros. Greatest Hits on Side 2. For decades I played this, loud, with the windows down, during the first days of Spring.
My other "happiest time" music was Level 42's "World Machine" album, heavy rotation while I was a shiny Lieutenant, TDY every other week to Orlando, LA, SF, Denver, Seattle, Europe, etc; chasin' girls; giggin'; running 4 miles/day. Ahh.

My whole 5th grade class went and took a weekend trip up to a northern Minnesota resort. I specifically remember listening to this with my friend on the bus. I'm sure it's complete garbage nowadays but it didn't get any cooler back than. The simpler days.

Have You Ever Loved a Woman, Eric Clapton.
Every Picture Tells A Story, Rod Stewart and Faces.
Neither were innocent. But both delivered.
Yeah. Great question. Great thread.

”That Song” and “The Oaf,” by Big Wreck. Like @epcotisbest, these were songs I heard on the school bus in my youth. Fantastic band featuring one of the world’s must underrated guitarists (and my favourite player), Ian Tornley. Actually saw him in an airport on my way back from London a few weeks ago and regrettably, I didn’t go over to shake his hand.

Correct. I was not there at that time. Graduated in 2007. I was there the one year Matt Painter was the head coach. They were good while I was there. Made a sweet 16 run and was ranked anywhere from 15-30 in the nation. Of course that was when the Valley was still good. Creighton and Witchita State were still in the MVC.

Being a military brat I would go with Jimmy Buffet “ Changes in Latitude...” since we moved a lot. Any Buffet album before Fruitcakes is kinda a go to for me, though I am not a Parrot Head.

Which was hard to do since it was a convertible with the top down!

Rumor has it that it was a great song to listen to while smoking something but I didn't have a Big Green Egg yet. 😎

Great thread Lousubcab!
Epcotisbest nailed it with "Joy to the World". A very close 2nd for me would be "Groovin" by the Rascal's. Takes me back to a time when life was a whole lot simpler & summers seemed to last forever.

@SamIam2 I would bet similar memories...Have a great remainder of the weekend.

When I was about twelve years old, I got the Woodstock soundtrack. A lot of the groups (Santana, The Who, Crisby, Stills & Nash, etc) on that album remind me of my early teen years. Good times.

I was a bit more seasoned by the time Woodstock (1969) rolled in. However, that was quite a summer as were all when you are runnin' in those age groups (18-22) in the mid-late 60's. Sorry for the flash-back but Wikipedia will fill the gaps for the great majority of younger members.
Anyone who tries to tell you the Golden Years are in front of you are full of $hit!

This thread brought back some memories, and last night as I was crawling into bed, I asked "Alexa, play some Doobie Brothers". She obliged, and played this tune first up, what a great song:
"I'm just tryin' to find me, A pretty smile that I, Can get into..."

The summer of 69 could have it’s own thread - Manson murders, Woodstock, man on the moon, etc. Damn I’m getting old. I’ll never forget the moon landing. My family watched while on vacation on a tiny black and white TV in a rented house in Pawley’s Island SC.
