I was feeling lazy tonight, didn't feel like reading, and watched a reality/competition show on the History channel, "Forged by Fire"? Four competitors came in, were given chunks of metal and tools, and told to make a knife, and eliminated one by one like a cooking show.
Was pretty interesting. First stage, they took away everyone's hammer, and the contestants had to build a hammer before working on their knives, one was eliminated, etc etc.
I like building things out of wood, have always been fascinated by welding, metalwork and metallurgy but have never done those things outside of high school and college shop classes. Don't a couple Eggheads here make knives?“I'll have what she's having."

Forge IN Fire. Good show. Pretty amazing some of the stuff that some of the competitors have made.Botch said:I was feeling lazy tonight, didn't feel like reading, and watched a reality/competition show on the History channel, "Forged by Fire"? I bought a forge and built a knife grinder. I have made a few knives, let me tell you it is not as easy as it looks!Botch said:I was feeling lazy tonight, didn't feel like reading, and watched a reality/competition show on the History channel, "Forged by Fire"? I set the Stoker at 260F and it was running too hot at the dome. It was close to 350F even after letting the egg stabilize for the second half of last night’s game. I knocked it down to 250F, threw on the brisket and went to bed. This morning the dome was still running 300F. First time I’ve seen that much variation throughout the cook. I was shooting for 275ish. We’ll see how it turns out. I cooked it for chili so it’ll be fine either way. It’s SRF black that has been wet aging for 4 weeks so it can’t be too bad. I’ve got some calibration checks to do before the next cook. My probes were about 35 degrees off when I bought them. Something probably changed in the programming.JohnnyTarheel said:@DoubleEgger what egg temp are you running? -

Thats a cool show. The folks I take classes from were on it and won the master/apprentice episode. I'm just starting a journey into this rabbit hole that is blacksmithing. Really enjoying it so far.Botch said:I was feeling lazy tonight, didn't feel like reading, and watched a reality/competition show on the History channel, "Forged by Fire"?
