How do you clean your adjustable rig?

Options
My brother in law is coming to borrow my adjustable rig for a big cook on his large.  I thought I would make it transportable, so this happened (medium woo on top).  How do you clean yours?

Put in or leave in the egg for a semi clean burn after using it.

@GaBGE, I think that is my traditional method.  I guess I have never sent the rig on a field trip, he called and caught me without any prep.  A clean burn would definitely do better than the flamethrower would.

Do you put ammonia in the bag as well?   Curious about your method....

I thought the same...throw it away, but then figured there could be some legitimacy to it.  🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the suggestions. The torch burn did ok, not as good as using the egg. He was borrowing my firebox and fire ring as well, so those had to stay cool to transport. He took his firebox out and its in so many pieces he couldn’t get it back together. I’m probably loaning him mine until he submits a claim. The medium just got promoted as the daily driver.

Take AR with crud on it and put it in a garbage bag.

Put all of that in another garbage bag, and tie it closed.

Pick it all up and transport to site where it is needed.

    Open garbage bags.

    Pull out AR.

    Place in egg.

    Light up the egg.

    Cook!
I knew what you meant - because it is exactly what I was thinking.  Since it is being given to someone else I might at another step:

Half-heartedly apologize that the cooking gear you are lending is covered in cooking crud.

I'm always amazed when I see pics with a clean AR. I've tossed them in the dishwasher but they still come out with crud on them. I guess I don't do a clean burn as often as others. I figure it's like a CI pan, knock the loose stuff off and the rest is ok once it gets hot.

I take mine to eggfests etc.   I never clean anything except the grates where the food sits.  I use the trash bag transport method too.   Works grate.

Clean burn. I rotate all pieces through. Just be very careful as the hinge gets hit and expands. The lid can fall out.

still cracks me up. Trying to be sneaky and clean the grid. Got his tags stuck so I made him sit in his own shame until I could get a pic. The look on his face when I walked out was priceless.

Want the easiest method? Spray it down with Easy-Off Oven Cleaner and then stick it on a trash bag. Try and compact the bag down so it touches as much of the steel surface as you can.  All the gunk will be gone over night... this is also the easiest way to strip cast iron for reseasoning.
