Since we are all about Austin here, today is one year on from the Franklin fire. (and yes Harvey landfall). For those of you lucky enough to have such convenient access as to decide to go or not on a given day, pause and remember us poor ba$tards that make the pilgrimage and have a narrow window of opportunity.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Yes, tomorrow(Monday) 6pm

And the one year anniversary of me ripping my bicep off loading up for Harvey. Seems like longer than that. Healed up pretty well these dayslousubcap said:Since we are all about Austin here, today is one year on from the Franklin fire. Not so much. In this case, both parties will have exchanged unlabeled packages of uncooked (and sometimes cooked) meat in parking lots for subtle wads of cash many times before.MNEggerandStuff said:wagu in a parking lot? is that like speakers from 2 guys in a van??
You only need speakers once in awhile, but you always need meat.
(Shadiest by me so far was a fistful of cash for an aluminum tray of BBQ at 11PM on Christmas Eve in the parking lot of a bar --- Santa was pleased to have some brisket and a cold one after all those milk and cookies)(now only 16 stone)

If you go to Loro then I would recommend the Smoke Prime Bavette. It's incredible. @The Cen-Tex Smoker has named off some good ones. As previously mentioned if you can, drive down the Lockhart and hit the 3 there. Another place that isn't bad is Freedmans and they also have a Bourbon bar. They also make a killer Bloody Mary where they smoke the tomatoes for it. I would probably get stones thrown at me but I was disappointed in Valentinos. However, I was there for lunch and their breakfast tacos are supposed to be great.

PM's sent to those saying they had interest. We will see you guys there at 6. We will wait outside.
For those who have not met me, I'll be in stiff jeans, boots, leather suspenders, and flannel shirt (even in the 103 degree heat) with a waxed mustache doing goat yoga while drinking Kombucha and checking my Insta so I should be super easy to spot in South Austin
.

The bavette is fantastic and it will be ordered.Arkysmokin said:If you go to Loro then I would recommend the Smoke Prime Bavette. It's incredible. @The Cen-Tex Smoker has named off some good ones. FWIW- I'm not a huge fan of the food in Lockhart but I am a huge fan of the pilgrimage. The top 5-6 places in Austin are way better than any of the Lockhart places these days. All the Lockhart places have branched out to Austin (Schmidt Family BBQ is the family the owns Smitty's and Kreutz and Terry Blacks is the family that owns blacks). Terry Blacks is the best of the carpetbaggers but none of them really hit the radar here. Food aside, Lockhart is an amazing place and it is ground zero for TX barbecue history. Definitely worth the visit.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -
@The Cen-Tex Smoker
I would agree. It's a great experience. I was a fan of Blacks and Smitty's down there. My favorite is probably the Mueller family. The family business in Taylor, sister at LaBBQ and the brother has a tiny place in Georgetown which is closer to me. Coopers is probably next on my list to try. That and Hard Eight in Stephensville but thats a little drive.

I'm on the ground and looking forward to tonight!
My first thought was to tape a picture of a big Green egg to my chest, guess I can just look for the suspenders and flannel now. -
I haven't been to John's new place in Georgetown but I've eaten his stuff a lot. Hope you like black pepper! He's like 90% pepper to 10% salt (same as the mothership in Taylor). Still good though. Better eat there fast because he will be gone soon. He has a long history of burning bridges along with bbq. he does not stay in one place too long but he makes good bbq and is a riot to talk too when he's not in a mood. He is just as quick tell you to f*ck off and leave as he is to slip you a giant burnt end and slap on the back with a joke. He is an interesting cat.Arkysmokin said:@The Cen-Tex Smoker

I actually did LOL on that one. that is like 1 of 1000 LOL's that were real. Good thing I had my sock suspenders on. Would hate to look like tool if my socks fell down.Legume said:

1/2 way through the trip and it's been great thanks to everyone here. So far we have Lockhart's, very historic, a drive around cota grounds, then a group met up at Loro and good fun was had by all.

-
We'll see what tomorrow holds, could be Franklin's, Stile's, or who knows. One thing is for sure, they don't make this quality of BBQ in MPLS.
-
Well, I believe a good time was had by all. Brisket was excellent but possibly not the best thing on the table. The oak roasted snap peas were incredible. Chicken Bo Ssam- top notch. Green curry sausage, pork belly, chicken Karaage, smoked Bavette, smoked sweet corn, corn fritters and I’m sure I’m forgetting stuff. Good food and even better company. We stole one tonight! Thanks for showing up everyone. Happy Monday from the ATX.

Curry sausage you say?
Do you think they weighed and wrote down the ingredients that they used to make it?XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle
