    De Gea should almost certainly be a step up from Casillas in 2014.

    Betting odds in the UK market, currently;
    Brazil @ 9/2 are favourites
    Germany @ 5/1
    Spain @ 13/2
    France @ 7/1
    Argentina @ 10/1

    England good value at 20/1 - so bet the farm on us.

    To be honest, unless there are any shocks on the early stages - the top teams get in to gear after the groups stages.  And the bookies don't tend to lose money very often.

    Just to be clear, for those who may not know, the Netherlands did not qualify this year.  Neither did Italy.  The US is not the best team that is not playing in Russia.
    Thanks @Foghorn I did no know that, in that case not sure who I will pull for, maybe Spain.

    No but Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Peru, and Iceland are.

    So, if I bet the field against Brazil,I’ll win about 20 cents for every dollar I bet?

    That doesn’t seem like a lot to a gambler. But I think it’s a safer bet than most stocks and the return will be almost immediate.

    Ok, so odds are presented differently -try this;

    Brazil @ 9/2 are favourites & therefore +450
    Germany @ 5/1 or +500
    Spain @ 13/2 or +650
    France @ 7/1 or +700
    Argentina @ 10/1  or +1000

    I don't have a wall chart.  But I have a question to stimulate discussion.

    Ray Hudson - Best announcer working today?  Or annoying and repetitive?

    We have plenty of annoying and repetitve football commentators over here. I don't know Ray Hudson, does he just work in the US? Generally, I find sports commentators on the radio to be better - they have to be. Sound down on the TV and radio on.

    I did fill out a bracket.  I’ll get a pic of it and post it.  Have Germany beating France 2-1.

    I think I'll go with Mexico as a Spoiler!!!

    Just to take Germany out and really screw up the mix!

    Colombia to beat England?

    Before that Eng v Belgium - that could easily be a nil-nil given that its essentially a Premier League match with both teams away from home.
    I suspect that Belgium will score more than England and as such top group G.

    Nonetheless - the football evil empire (FIFA) have still conspired to stop England at quarter final stage, again.   I would favour us getting something from Brazil rather than Germany.   However, Germany do have a melt-down somewhere in their locker,  possibly only once a generation - but you never know.

    Fox1 is airing a really good series leading into the World Cup called Phenoms.  I've watched several episodes this week and it is outstanding.  If you find it, it's worth the watch.

    Thanks @YEMTrey, I'll check it out.

    More news on the eve of the opening match.

    US gets to host in 2026 and Spain sacked their coach for taking the Real Madrid job.

    I'm wondering how that will affect the odds.
