LUMP!

I know everyone has a favorite brand but I find it has more to do with what you're used to. Over the past 3 months I have tried 4 different brands. All start, smoke and cook but some are easier for (ME) to use. I think it's because it's a brand i have been using for a while.
With my recent adventures in lump, I did find some that get hot quick but don't last as long ( I have cooks for that lump), others have little smoke but burn long, so I add some of my favorite apple wood.
Point being, pour, fire up and enjoy what ever you have. I will say that about a year ago I came across some lump that I will never purchase again. No need to bash the brand - others might swear by it.

I don't know why, but every time I read a lump thread, I can't help but to contemplate about the almighty Space Sphincter.

As a certified lump whore, I will buy whatever is on sale, it all starts, burns and works. Some works better than others, some has more ash, some adds its own smoke, some is very neutral. No question the more you use one brand, the more you will understand it and be comfortable cooking with it.
I like Maple Leaf and tend to use it the most. Lazzari mesquite was on sale for $13.85US ($20CDN tax included) for a 40# bag. Mix a few pieces in with the Maple Leaf and I do not need and mesquite smoke wood. Royal Oak is a favourite for woodfire pizza at our house, seems to burn very well when the temps are high.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad! -
Space Sphincter for the win!

Just wanted to share two pieces of lump my neighbor, which happens to be a manufacturer and distributor, gave me:

I have read that "center cut" lump charcoal is the best, because like paper, it lights easy, burns fast and leaves little ash."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

There should be a disclosure/warning label with that. Though it does fit in well with that bag of Frontier semi combustible material.lkapigian said:
