New platesetter coming today!
I have always seasoned cast iron. Do I do the same with the platesetter or just throw some meat on and let'r rip.

I have never seasoned mine.

There's a cast iron plate setter. Wow!- Jamaican living in rural Western Washington

Seasoning it would be a waste imho. Why? Because using it in higher temps will eat the seasoning anyways. Just maybe a quick spray with canola or I like avocado oil and use it.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

What is the difference between the CI plate setter at the above www address and one from BGE or another company? Any one know because they are significantly different in price.

A little spray after the cook will also help stop it from rusting.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
I guess I cook too much greasy food. I haven't seen a speck of rust in the two years I've had one. I also haven't ever used it for anything besides a heat deflector.

I'd season it the same as a skillet. Should make the top easy to clean.Aledo, Texas

I had a ceramic one. Was getting the egg set up one spring afternoon a few years ago. As I set the ceramic ps in the fire box it just split in two. I was pissed.
Bought the cast iron one and haven't looked back...or seasoned it. -
I have heard some negative comments about the CI one because they rust on the bottom. Seasoning will just burn off. But I have no personal experience.
