I would never have been able to afford the Porsche if I wasted money on haircuts.
Indeed a valid point my friend. Thus my offer of a free haircut still stands. My Christmas present to you ;)

How does one get fed to rabbits?  Seems like there would be a lot of prep work involved.

I think the movie "Fargo" had a good prep scene. Real time saver.

Secret is to buy an older Porsche. So that when you sell it after driving it for ten years, it's worth even more

I bought a 2007 Cayman S in 2013 with 27K miles for less than half the price it was new.  It's almost immaculate.  It's a driver's car.  Mid engine (unlike the 911), so easy and fun to drive.   I laugh maniacally every time I drive it.  I drive it almost every day and park it on the public street in front of my house.

You can drink the wine and resell it?

@Darby_Crenshaw  - funny you should post that pearl.  Bought a used 1970 911 Targa  in 1974-drove it (daily driver) for 29+ years-engine fire was the end.  Sold it to the insurance company for a few K over what I paid-but in inflated adjusted terms I lost my a$$ just like any routine auto deal.

You buy a coupla few bottles of the old stuff as a package deal, drink a third to half, and sell the rest

When you buy at the top of the market (the best or most in-demand stuff), it may seem expensive, but prices rarely go down.

My old man bought a car for $35.

Restored it, drove it. We'd go get fried clams. He once drove it blind folded as I (age 13) told him to steer "more left" (or right) in order to avoid woodchuck holes in the field

sold a few years ago for $99k

it still took me twenty years to learn.

I passed up so much crap that could have tripled my money. Instead i did the 401k thing. Safe. But boring

My wife used to drive a Porsche. She needed the excitement. Then she met me. That is all I am saying.

    I'm guessing the Porsche wasn't a stick.

  • I interpreted it to mean that she got it all out in college and settled for something predictable and easy to ride

I wasn't there to see the purchase (obviously), but my grandfather said he paid $425.00 for a new A model. Wish I still had that one. It would be worth far more than that today.

Well, well.  Mid engine guy =)  I have always thought than the Cayman is a greatly under appreciated car.  I also drive a mid engine two seater - Audi R8 six speed MT.  Some days after a tough workday, I get in and just drive.  It can be a sanctuary with that engine right behind your head making all those great V8 noises.

Anyway - congrats on that Cayman.

@kthacher Sweet!   Those are bad muthaflippers.  I used to have an A8 and an Audi GT.  Not in that league by far. That's an exotic.

Since it is Thurs (close to Friday) and the climate forum is history- there is a whole lot to be said for the friggin enjoyment and power that comes when you stomp on the accelerator of a tuned V-8 auto engine.  Sadly such an experience will soon go the way of the buffalo.
