What is Brisket Camp

Probably a dumb question but I see all the posts about it from time to time and I am just curious. Is it a private event or a class or what?

It is a gathering of the Gods. Us mere mortals are not invited.
Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.
Status- Standing by.

On a serious note, yes anyone can attend. It's a friendly get together where everyone hangs out and cooks. It also is a great way to meet folks from the forum. Put a face to the name if you will. Again, anyone can attend.

Unless you get shipped offshore at last minute. Then you can't attend.SGH said:On a serious note, yes anyone can attend. It's a friendly get together where everyone hangs out and cooks. It starts out with the intention of being a class of sort, but usually ends up being a wild party. But it's the thought that counts.ChuckR said:Is it a private event or a class or what?Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

Are they held all over the country?

Thus far there has only been two. Both were held in NO, La. John is working on something similar for this April in NC.slovelad said:Are they held all over the country?Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

Would love something like that in Florida
-
You or someone in Florida could certainly organize one. Just locate a place that it can be held and then announce it on the forum. If you build it, they will come. Finding and booking a location is the hardest part.slovelad said:Would love something like that in FloridaLocation- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

I wouldn't know my ass from my elbow when it comes to brisket.... I need camp bad lol
-
No doubt. I sure wish that I could have been there. When I started July 28th it was suppose to be for 30 nights or less. If I'm counting correctly, tonight is my 104th night straight. My apologies all the same to everyone, but there really was nothing I could do.DMW said:Unless you get shipped offshore at last minute. Then you can't attend.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

How familiar are you with the movie "Deliverance"?

You were missed, but I understand, us working stiffs have to go to where the money is, we don't get the handouts others do.SGH said:

If you organize one in Florida, some of the Brisket Gods will show up. There will be someone there to cook brisket. Heck it don't even have to be "brisket" camp. It can be any kind of gathering that you want. I have been considering organizing one in the Biloxi/Gulfport area. I'm going to mention it brother Reed and see if he wil be one of the guest cooks along with a few of the forum greats. I been throwing around the idea of me and Nola doing a seafood blow out while brother Reed and some of of the forum members cook Q.slovelad said:I wouldn't know my ass from my elbow when it comes to brisket.... Coming to Florida for a week in December. Nowhere near God status, but I did turn out my best ever on my last cook. Um that might be like saying I was valedictorian of my summer school remedial math class for football players, but it was ok. Most of my information came from this forum from these people.
Don't let @SGH **** you. He and the others, have forgotten about how to make a great brisket, than I could possibly ever know.
Tipping my hat to @nolaegghead for the events and hosting previous events. That is a lot of work, and preparation to do. Plus keeping these Gods out of jail is a feat in itself. I will attend one eventually. I hope to survive."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Think Burning Man but with BGE's and all kinds of other cookers and cooking going down. This last one included a lamb on a cinder block pit, butts , chargrilled oysters, phenomenal Baltimore pit beef, artisanal bread, beef ribs, briskets, gumbo, and a truckload of other eats. Plenty of booze lubricated all involved.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

And a phenomenal dirty hippie gypsy blues rock n roll jazz band. With a bluegrass influence.caliking said:Think Burning Man but with BGE's and all kinds of other cookers and cooking going down. You know who else plays bluegrass?

Brisket camp is a formal classroom experience with BBQ certified instructors that lecture for 8 hours a day for 3 days straight. You know I'm joking and just wish I could've been there...Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

@GATraveller no one did any pig squeals during the actual camp day. There were some pics the nights leading up....

The actual reason it is called Brisket Camp, is because there were so many Brisket questions coming through on the forum. SGH and NOLA essentially put forward the idea of doing an onsite Brisket tutorial. Everyone on the forum thought it was a great idea. From there it gradually took shape to include a band. In typical fashion with things that include good grub and booze it went mostly downhill and turned into a fabulous and much needed elbow bending tension release. However it was not a total lie, some Brisket was cooked. At this point I think any pretense of official or even quasi official tutorials has been dismissed. Anything from this point forward in relation to this forum or it's primary members that includes the noun "Camp" should be immediately construed as legal debauchery. Having a good lawyer a phone call away is well advised. Frequent attendance at "camp" could lead to liver transplant. Buckeye, I was there. We had around 15 teams. I cooked on 2 eggs and brought home an XL. we gave out around 500 samples. This was confirmed with more than 500 tickets sold. We raised 20,000 for Breast Cancer. I did not win Peoples choice nor the Grand Prize.Columbus, Ohio--A Gasser filled with Matchlight and an Ugly Drum.

@Jstroke .. question, at 'Brisket Camp' ... what is an avg day look like? What time does the avg day start and day end ...I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

SoCalTim I would like to be clear, I did not go, but I have talked with SGH . Saturday is as long as you can handle. It completely depends on what you want to do and how much cooking you want to be a part of. Plan on going to bed sometime early sunday morning.Columbus, Ohio--A Gasser filled with Matchlight and an Ugly Drum.

Brisket Camp is a one day event that begins on Thursday and ends on Sunday.

Brisket camp is hedonism at its finest and worst. We gave up any formal teaching "class style" after the first year. But there's much discussion of brisket, as we cook them (we put most of the low and slow stuff on the night before). And there are all kinds of things going on, some even involve cooking.
