The only reason I'm keeping my egg is Rockwood. I'm in a state of mourning. I'll not be able to make salado. Crying to hard to drive. I'll see ya'll in a few months.

And do what?  I'm sure the mothership would be perfectly fine with any competitor to their branded charcoal going out of business.

And why would they do that?

  • For those of you outside the "hillbilly honey hole" for OO (AR/TN) like me where OO was $1 per lb, I can tell you that Rockwood at the same price is so much better. This is no loss for most of us. If you are going to buy premium lump, Rockwood is the best I ever used (and I've used a lot of them).

If if I could get OO FOR $5 for 10 lbs like Henapple, I would use it exclusively. I've bought it once since I found Rockwood and it wasn't even close.

If if you have t tried Rockwood, I reccomend you do.

I'm well aware of that fact.  And I'm sure they'd be fine if RO stopped selling their own brand - even if BGE paid retail ($12.97 for 17 lb bag at my local HD) they'd make around $10/bag selling it at the shop I got my egg ($24.95 for a 20 lb bag).  Since I'm sure they're paying less to RO they are making a huge profit on lump.  I would expect that they'd love for people to have no other options, so they can make that profit on every bag of lump used in an egg.

@nolan8v Seems the best option for Cali eggers would be to lobby hard or move.

Hasty Bake it is then.  Just ordered 10 bags via Amazon for $120 shipped Prime.

I planned on buying more OO once I finished up the Forest Lump I bought last year and hate with a passion.

    Wow am I pissed off.

This made me feel better. I've been spoiled here in hillbilly land with the five dollar bags of OO. I'll be happy to order some rockwood now. Thanks for the pep talk.

No doubt brother. I wasn't complanning. The only time I complain is when I'm offshore. Then i cuss, cry and scream!! I love being in port. I can drive home every night. It's a little over a hour drive but I can do it. When I'm offshore on a line lay or umbilical hook up driving home is not a option. I will gladly keep sitting here watching the tugs go by!!

@sgh wasn't thinking you were complaining, but we all get numb to our surroundings. My options are office walls, or watching the yarn or carpet go by. I'd take tugs for a change of pace occasionally.

I just bought a couple of bags of OO last week.  I better go buy the local store out tomorrow at $4.97 a bag.

I have been around tugs for 35 years, give or take a little. I never get tired of watching them. Kind of fascinated with them. Looking back, I wish I would have went on and got my heavy tonnage license. I would be piloting them instead of watching them! But like a dummy, I stopped after getting my 100 ton license. Live and learn I guess.

It really doesn't make any logical sense for a successful business to just shut down vs selling it to somebody and retiring. Really hinky.
