How do you guys get these to not fall apart when you're flipping them? Toothpicks?

I use toothpicks or skewers. I have read about ( on this forum I think ) of small stainless steel skewers...haven't tried tho.

Is it really necessary to flip them since you're cooking them indirect?

I use toothpicks -- but be sure to soak them in water first, it will keep them from burning (sort of).I'm Kristi ~ Live in FL ~ BGE since 2003.

And don't use the colored ones...they will turn your chicken funny colors. Did they do that to you @NecessaryIndulg ?

What I learned from the colored ones is that it didn't matter how long I soaked them... they still burned to a crisp. Oops!

They didn't turn your chicken red and pink and green and blue (depending on the color of the toothpick)?

I have used the color ones and got dyed chicken before, @Griffin... but I am not near as good of a cook at @necessaryindulg, so not surprised hers did not.
My container of colored ones now aid in garlic press pics.... So hard to get the skin out of mine!

It's not 100% necessary to flip them, but what I found is the bacon on the bottom will remain a little less crisp than the bacon on the top. This is especially true if using thighs. All the bacon/chicken fat runs down and drips off the bottom of the bombs:I only use one toothpick like @necessaryindulg and only when necessary. Start wrapping on one end and try to overlap the bacon and that will hold the "starting" end, then one toothpick through the loose end. Sometimes I notice I get lucky and the bacon just matches up and I don't need the toothpick. As they cook, the bacon will sort of seal with the chicken anyway and you can flip em.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I use extra strips of bacon to make sure they don't fall apart, there's no such thing as too much bacon.Rochester, MN --- Large BGE
