Alot of people have had non BGE brand stones break after multiple cooks on the Egg. The BGE unit is very thick, more thaan twice as thick as the Pampered Chef one I use it the oven sometimes.
-
I am not sure if that one is like the pampered chef one I used for the last time Sat as it cracked in to five or six pcs at about 600f. it was above the plate setter which is fine.
-
The sixteen inch stone is to big for a large.Buy the best and get a BGE stone and happy forever. Not enough air flow would be the problem with a sixteen inch stone.
-
It is recommended we use a stone 5/8 inch thick.
The old stone is much thinner than that. -
So get the 14-1/2" BGE stone???
I also heard after I posted that there could be a chance that I could fry the gasket with a 16" stone.
Do you use the plate setter with your pizza stone??
Thanks -
In your FWIW dept., I use a 15 1/2" x 5/8" thick "P***o" stone the bottom of which is 3" above the felt line. I also cook my pizzas direct (no platesetter). Once the stone is up to 450-475* the pizza goes on. Crispy crust (not burned) and melted cheese.
-
What is your stone setting on??Thanks
-
Plate setter legs down, little green feet, then pizza stone.

Thank you! 10 days until eggfest

i've used the 16" old stone from amazon for a couple of years (no adverse effects on my gasket). i turn the plate setter legs down, then the little green feet, then the pizza stone. this gets the pizza stone a couple of inches above the gasket, which makes it very easy to get pizzas onto and off the stone with the pizza peel.

On a LBGE,Plate Setter legs up (keeps fire from gasket), grill, grill extender, and a 15.5 Primo Pizza stone. I have the 14" BGE stone, but got tired of burning the edges, hung over the edge a hair. I use screens to keep them from sticking.
Cheers

Thanks..Nice looking pizza.
I guess the key is getting the stone above the gasket. -
Raised grill on adjustable rig.
