With Father's Day rapidly approaching, just wondering what everyone is cooking or if the family is going to "treat" by taking you away from the grill. Personally, I declare it a day I cook what I want.
Baby backs are the order of the day Sunday. Low and slow with a dry rub.

    Shelby,
My son's HS baseball team will be holding the end of season banquet on Sunday, so I'm going to make them all wish they had a BGE with some ribs.[p]TNW

Shelby,[p]I'm thinking a nice brisket. You know..when I started cooking briskets..I'd never had them before..and the only ones I could get at the local markets were very small..1-2 pounds..and trimmed of most fat. I cooked them ..low and slow..till 195 to 200 internal..over hickory..and usually DP course grind..or DP cow lick cut with turb sugar...wrapped in foil for an hour after pulling it out of the egg..and they were pretty darn good...better than I've had in any restaurant round these parts..but then again...ain't much real q'n goin on up here..anyhow..but it wasn't until I found a 3 pounder...that still had the fat cap on..that I realized how good a brisket can be. I still haven't found a place round here where I can get a brisket bigger'n 3 pounds..but the search continues..either way..since my wife isn't too keen on me letting the egg chug along overnight anyway...I'm content with the small brisket..and getting up early..firing up the egg...and letting it chug along during the day...but never again..will a whimpy..well trimmed brisket hit the egg. [p]Matter of fact..tonight I went to the market basket (I sure miss the local piggly wiggly)..and asked the man at the meat counter for a brisket...he showed me the ones in the case...and I asked him if he had any out back that weren't trimmed yet. He went out back...and came back with a cryovac'd brisket...round bout three and a half pounds..and I asked him to only trim the thick stiff fat running along one side..and leave the fat cap intact...THAT is my fathers day cook...and I can't wait....[p]Somebody write this down...a real Q related post...lordy I'ma feelin light headed...[p]StumpBaby[p]

    StumpBaby,
Did you send this, or did someone get on the computer and do it? I believe this is the only post from you that I haven't saved, so I want to be sure it's yours.

    StumpBaby,
Do you have a Sam's Club or Costco near you? They usually carry briskets in the 4-6 lb range with a decent fat cap.

    StumpBaby,
And here I sit with a nice 9+ pound brisket in the freezer. Along with the 18 pounds of Boston Butt I picked up for 89 cents a pound yesterday. Still doing ribs. Seeing all the cooking shows this week with ribs has the taste buds going!

    StumpBaby,
Well we all have days when the fingers start typing and our real personalities don't come out! I have no doubt that there will be another story very soon by which you can redeem yourself, just like they do down at the revival tent, after they have passed the collection plate ten times.

  • StumpBaby,
I can certainly understand you needs to get a little bit “normal” now and then again when your life has been so filled with all your kin folks trials and tribulations and predicaments. But you should know that by now many of us supposedly normal people require a bit of craziness in our lives too just to balance things out a bit. So, you see, we all help each other in more ways that you know. Keep up the good work Stump and may we all eat well and be blessed by the Ceramic Food God from above.

    Shelby,
Wife wanted to cook for me. I put a QUICK stop to that. I asked her to prep cook instead and I can use my egg.[p]We are having Spatchcock chicken, potatoe salad, fruit salad, fresh green beans and home made BGE bread. For dessert, Homemade Peanut Butter pie (by request of course)[p]For breaqkfast though, I asked my wife to cook an egg casserole on the BGE. She looked at me and I knew... It ain't happenin![p]I am resolved to keep the grill domain as mans territory around our house and especially this fathers day.[p]Banker John
