Medium vs Large BGE
All winter I've been working on remodeling our home and painting Plus buying new this, new that...well I'm finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel and want to start my long awaited project...the table for my yet to be purchased BGE. My question has to do with size. Do I want the large or the medium...really the price is not an issue. Most all the time I'll just be cooking for two and rarely for four and never more than four. Mathematically the large has about 80 more sq inches of grill surface which is essentially the equivalent to 9x9 more no bid deal in my mind. As for cooking a turkey we only do turkey breasts so I don't see the need for the height. I'm thinking why fire up the large for just two people. Is there any advantages anyone would care to share with me before I start butchering some wood? THANKS in advance!

Ron, if price is no issue, go with the large. See the previous (Hot Wings) post - you could make twice as many as I can make in my medium! Good luck.

Ron Pratt, welcome to the group. If price is no objectthen get two, then build your table to accomodate both the small or medium and the large. There are only two people here and I alternate between the two. And when we have guests I use em both. Nice to have two ranges of temperature cooks going at the same time.[p]Since I built my table only for the large, I now should make a second custom table to hold both! Check out JJ's vistors profile for a multiple table operation. He has 5 eggs and only he and his wife Kathy.[p]You headed in the right direction...Good luck!

Ron Pratt,[p]I'd go with the large. It has more area above the grill (useful when cooking using indirect heat and when making pizza or bread) and a larger charcoal capacity (useful when cooking those long cooks). It can comfortably cook any meal you can imagine (your cooking results will encourage you to try new methods and recipes). All new accessories are made for the large and then may become available for the smaller Eggs.[p]We have a large and small Egg and mostly cook for two. Both are quite useful. The combination of two Eggs allows us the utmost in cooking versatility.[p]Spin

Ron Pratt,
I bought the medium first, and exchanged for a large within a month. What made my mind up was when I cooked a whole chicken indirect over a drip pan on a vertical roaster, and I wanted to cook potatoes also. It was a bit tight, and the top of the chicken nearly touched the inside of the dome.[p]I love the space inside the large. Even when cooking for a small group, you have more options. And when you want to cook a 20 hour brisket or butt, the firebox capacity on the large will always get you finished without adding fuel.[p]You'll do just fine with the medium for the conditions you decribe, but will have less options for setups. The large uses a bit more fuel probably, due to the increased space to heat, but not very much more.[p]Good luck with your table, and welcome.[p]NB
