Best way to Clean egg Cap

tell me something... What is the best way to clean the cast iron egg cap? you know the black damper that goes on the top of the egg. I need to clean it but was not sure the best way to do it. I cooked some butts this weekend and it needs to be clean.

When you shut down the egg just put it on the grate. No need for high temp clean.

yep, just put it inside after cooking and then put the ceramic rain cap on to shut down the egg.

That was the way I did it, I know the proper way to keep it clean over time is to stick it in the grill when done with the cook, but the weed burner is much more fun.

If you don't like the results from the burn off method another method is to let it soak overnight in a small container of household ammonia. In the morning rinse it off using a scrub brush and rubber gloves. I do this about once a year or two and mine looks great with no rust. Caution if you're on a septic system then NEVER pour the ammonia down the drain.

yeahhhhhhhhhhhh thats what I like to see. Cleaning is a dirty job and should be done in a fun way.
