My old egg table has been retired after many years of use so it's time for my new dream table. My wife and I built a new deck last summer. We had planned on building a table for the egg that would be more like an outdoor kitchen. The new table will include a small sink and refrigerator. [p]I have been saving some Corian material salvaged from a demo job at work that will be used for the counter top. The sides and front will be covered with cultured stone.[p]This project will take several weeks to complete so I will post pics and info as each step is complete.[p]Here's the first pics of the frame.[p]Matt

dhuffjr,
    Thanks
I'm not an engineer, just like to overbuild things and I had a new dado blade to try out.[p]Matt

  • MattB,[p]Very cool! What are you going to use for your shelves and what kind of finish?[p]Also, I am curious if you like your Solo blower? (Noticed it in the background.) I hear some good things about those.

    MattB,
Lookin' good Matt. Is that a treated wood? I am planning on a corner table when I get my egg next month.[p]JD

JD McGee,[p]I used pressure treated wood for the frame. The horizontal surfaces will be covered with 3/4 ply that is safe for moist locations (not pressure treated but plywood that is constructed from a waterproof glue). The top counter plywood will then be covered with Corian solid surface material and the area under and around the egg will be covered with concrete board. I'm thinking of using a stone slab for the very upper counter, but will wait till the rock front goes up to see how it looks before I decide.[p]Matt

NJKel,[p]I think I will make a box that will have three drawers built into it. The box can then be installed and removed very easily from the table to gain access to the area under the sink. I would like to try and make custom spots in the drawers for all my eggcesseries.[p]For the finish I plan on using a cultured stone on the sides and front and for the back of the table area I think I will use some cedar trim that will be sealed with Australian Timber Oil (I use this on the ipe deck boards).[p]I have been using my Solo Blower for almost five years now and I love it. It starts on the first or second pull every time and is very quiet (can run it early in the morning or late at night and not bother anyone).[p]Matt

  • MattB,[p]Please don't forget to update us with new pix as you complete your new "command center". That's gonna be a great work space!
