I guess my profile pic needs updating.

I never thought about it, but seems reasonable a fatwa would survive the death of the mufti who placed it?

Obama was a winner. Trump is a loser. Trump cannot stomach this.

^^^ the above line in isolation appears divisive and low? To give the writer the benefit of the doubt, does it still look bad if it was at the end of the previous parapraph? (i.e. w.r.t. the Nobel Peace Prize only)

Trump walked away from that treaty because it was Obama’s — and he hates Obama because Obama negotiated safeguards against Iran enriching uranium to weapons grade. Obama also got Obamacare through Congress, addressed climate change and nuclear proliferation, and was rewarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Obama was a winner. Trump is a loser. Trump cannot stomach this.

sure, why not?  there are less inflammatory options to write that sentence as well.

picking apart the loser and characterization of someone as unable to accept or digest truth can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt for motive for all sorts of things.  but it’s still better to joe friday some facts.

speaking of facts however as much as many of us may think Jack Smith had an airtight case it was ultimately “winning the election” that zero’d out any momentum for the prosecution.

hear ye hear ye let’s hope all momentum in politics is attached to a pendulum.

The shifting sands of campaign objectives once the weekend cover is in the rear view mirror:

Donald Trump said Monday his war with Iran could last weeks—and he didn’t rule out the use of American ground troops. The jarring prospect of further escalation cuts against majority domestic opposition to the war, Trump’s repeated statements against foreign entanglements and US intelligence contradicting his justifications for initiating hostilities in the first place.

The president and his aides have continued to give shifting explanations for not only starting the war—which has reportedly killed more than 500 Iranians—but what must happen for it to end. Iranian retaliation for US and Israeli attacks have included strikes on US allies and bases across the region, claiming more than a dozen lives in Gulf states and Israel. At least six US soldiers have been killed while a US embassy was hit and a friendly fire incident shockingly downed three American fighter jets.

    Hubris Without Idealism

Donald Trump has embraced a warped version of the neoconservatism he once derided.
    By George Packer

    Exerpts:
"Iran, with its deep history, its educated and relatively homogeneous population, and its unbreakable freedom movement, has always seemed a better bet for political transformation than Afghanistan or Iraq. But if recent decades have taught anything, it’s that the absence of tyranny is not freedom but chaos; that war is a likelier agent of disintegration than of renewal; that America knows how to destroy regimes but not remake societies. Democracy can’t be installed—it has to grow from within, over time, under delicate conditions. The U.S. can help support it, but last year Trump shut down every U.S. agency and bureau that promoted democracy and human rights, and defunded government media, such as Voice of America and Radio Farda, that could have communicated with the Iranian people during this crisis. Having done more than any president in our lifetime to destroy democracy at home, Trump has no interest in making it flourish abroad. His hubris resembles that of the neocons—like them, he believes in American supremacy and is fascinated by the overwhelming power of the U.S. military—but he shares none of their idealism. His only commitment is to himself.
Trump came to office as a strident critic of the post-9/11 wars—“America First” meant no more U.S. troops killed in stupid interventions to change regimes in far-off countries. But Trump prizes his own untrammeled power more than consistency or peace. He’s become the latest advocate for regime change on the cheap—beguiled by the vision of “doing Iran for the next one” and resolving the 47-year conflict between the United States and the Islamic Republic, imagining a final end to the regime’s nuclear ambitions, terrorism, regional wars, and savage repression of its people. “This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday. “Hopefully, the IRGC and Police will peacefully merge with the Iranian Patriots, and work together as a unit to bring back the Country to the Greatness it deserves.”
In January, the IRGC—the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, along with the paramilitary Basij militia—killed as many as 30,000 Iranian protesters during the most brutal crackdown in the history of this violent regime. Most Iranians regard these forces with fear and hatred. No one can guarantee them the “complete immunity” that Trump offered over the weekend if they lay down their arms, and they won’t easily relinquish their power and corrupt wealth. His notion of spontaneous democratic combustion in a country of 90 million people, with its heavily armed military establishment still very much in control, shows sheer wishful thinking. Hopefully is the language of a leader without a plan.
And if “Greatness” fails to arrive—if the regime changes the name at the top but not its basic character, and its security forces slaughter thousands more Iranians who follow Trump’s videotaped advice to “take over” their country, and civil war breaks out in ethnic-minority regions, and the entire Middle East is in flames—who can believe that Trump will take any responsibility? Rather, he’ll claim the glory of war without owning the tragedy of all that it brings and move on to something else, while the Iranian people are betrayed again, this time by us."

    Gonna pay at the pump:

The Joint Maritime Information Center has elevated the regional threat level to CRITICAL—its highest classification—warning that “an attack is almost certain.” While Iran has not formally closed the Strait of Hormuz, the operational reality reflects “active kinetic hazard conditions” throughout the waterway.

Major shipping companies have responded with unprecedented action. Maersk announced it is “suspending all vessel crossings in the Strait of Hormuz until further notice,” while also rerouting its ME11 and MECL services around the Cape of Good Hope to avoid the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping has taken even more drastic measures, instructing “all MSC vessels currently operating in the Gulf region, as well as those en route” to proceed to “designated safe shelter areas until further notice.” The company has also temporarily suspended all worldwide cargo bookings to the Middle East region.

German carrier Hapag-Lloyd said Sunday it has suspended all vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz.

CMA CGM has activated emergency security measures and ordered all vessels inside or bound for the Gulf to proceed to shelter, suspended Suez Canal transits, and is rerouting ships via the Cape of Good Hope.  The French carrier says it will impose an Emergency Conflict Surcharge effective March 2, 2026, citing security risks tied to escalating tensions. The surcharge ranges from $2,000 per 20-foot container to $4,000 for reefers and special equipment, covering cargo to and from Gulf and Red Sea countries. It applies to new bookings, unshipped cargo, and cargo already afloat.

The king has done something I never thought was possible.  He has aligned the likes of Nick Fuentes and Tucker Carlson with the democrats and liberals.  I think he overplayed his hand - hopefully we do not all
    die because of it.

Also, those who still support him, what do you think about his heartfelt statements about the soldiers he sent to die for him? Do you think their death was worth it? Do you know why we bombed Iran?  Do you know what the goal or end looks like?
The surprise for me was Fanta Fuhrer not calling them suckers or losers this time, even if he was thinking it.

To be fair, he did have a plan - distract from Epstein and stop midterm elections.  He just doesn’t actually have a plan for the Iran part.

This is interesting .... something, something, sounds like, ummm, yeah, maybe something we heard directed at us from people flying planes into our towers?

"Non-commissioned officers (NCO) who attended a briefing Monday told the MRFF that a combat-unit commander “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.”

The commander also argued that Trump “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth" and that the Iran war is part of God's plan, the NCO claimed."

    Iran does have a strategy:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/03/world/europe/iran-war-strategy-trump-israel.html?unlocked_article_code=1.QVA.WfzY._x48fNlmlxae&smid=url-share

"Iran is facing qualitatively superior militaries, so the strategy is to test their will by expanding the battlefield, complicating the war and increasing the danger to the world economy. - The strategy is not complicated."

"The Islamic Republic of Iran’s first priority is to survive. To do that, its leaders will want to drive up the cost of the war for President Trump — in terms of American casualties, energy costs and inflation — to try to persuade him to declare victory and go home."

have shared from this humor website source before.. enjoy

    https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/does-your-country-need-regime-change-a-quiz

Does Your Country Need Regime Change? A Quiz

“In announcing the U.S. military strike on Iran, President Donald Trump went significantly beyond his previous justification of destroying the country’s nuclear program. He’s now also calling for regime change—and encouraging the Iranian people to rise up and overthrow their government.” — ABC News

    - - -

Is your country ruled by an aging megalomaniac whose supporters worship him with an almost cult-like zeal?

Has your leader eroded trust in elections by attempting to bring them under his direct control and/or stoking false claims of voter fraud?

Is there a fear that your leader has access to nuclear weapons that you could totally see him using if the end result would benefit him personally?

Is your country a notorious bad actor in the Middle East?

Has your leader deployed the country’s military domestically against civilians who were protesting peacefully?

Is your nation’s frail, kleptocratic economy being propped up, thanks in part to being a major oil exporter?

Do your leader’s supporters claim that he was ordained by God to rule?

Is your leader currently breaking ground on several expensive and cartoonishly vain construction projects in the nation’s capital?

Does your leader and his inner circle regularly engage in petty briberyshady investment deals, and other dubious behavior to enrich themselves?

Does your leader view the lives of armed services personnel as disposable by mocking their service or saying things like “that’s the way it is” whenever they are killed?

Is your leader in the process of consolidating control over the nation’s prominent media outlets?

Is there currently a paramilitary force actively engaging in ethnic cleansing, including, but not limited to, systematically attempting to remove an entire ethnic group from the country?

Has your leader created his own form of currency of which he is the face?

Does your leader give bombastic speeches about returning the nation to its former glory by vanquishing an enemy from within?

Has your leader been credibly accused and/or convicted of several crimes, which he is using his position of power to dodge accountability for?

Are politicians within your leader’s own party so terrified of retribution that they’ll let him insult and ridicule them right to their faces like he’s a septuagenarian Biff Tannen?

Has your leader renamed several prominent institutions after himself?

If your leader were deposed, would millions of people across the country take to the streets to celebrate?

Does it feel like every single news story, every article, every think piece, every bit of media content revolves around your leader, almost as if, no matter how hard the country tries to talk about literally anything else, he seems to keep finding ways to pop back into the spotlight and suck all of the oxygen out of the room, to the point where it feels like you’ve spent every waking moment of every day for the past ten years hearing about every single stupid and/or evil thing this guy’s done, and you’re just so **** exhausted?

Did your leader just start a war he clearly has no idea how to end?

If the answer to most or all of these questions is yes, it may be time for a massive nonviolent resistance movement.

"I don't have any concern about it," ‌he said, when asked about the higher prices at the pump. "They'll drop very rapidly when this is over, and if they rise, they rise, but this is far ‌more important than having gasoline prices go up a little bit."

    Far more important for whom?
