OT: Could Use Some Good Karma Today - Part Deux

Back in 2019 I posted this when my wife was undergoing heart surgery:
https://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1218564/ot-could-use-some-good-karma-today/p1
This morning we are back at Yale for our 15 y/o grandson Alex. He is undergoing surgery this morning to remove a brain tumor that has returned (was previously removed 10 years ago but the persistent bugger has come back) and the side effects are now becoming a problem.
We are thankful he has the same surgeon, and we are hopeful for a good outcome.

We are staying at the Ronald McDonald house for the duration of Alex's stay. My son (Alex's father) and I stayed at the one in Boston for 6 weeks while he underwent radiation treatments for his own brain tumor. If you are looking for a place to send your charitable giving, RMHC is rated 4/4 - 97% by Charity Navigator - they are an amazing organization.
Please keep Alex and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear about the tumor making a comeback. Never easy to watch a loved one struggle with health, and much harder when they are a child. Pretty great that the surgeon is so familiar with Alex; that’s a huge positive on all fronts.Thinking of Alex and of his loved ones.

I'm sending my morale support as well! By personal experience I know such critical medical procedures are rougher on those of you caring than the loved one having the medical procedure.

Hoping and wishing for the best outcome for Alex. My thoughts are with you Mike and your family.canuckland

Here is not the place for me to go full sailor about cancer. As tough as this is you have the best team aligned for this procedure. Stay strong in the face of this challenge as others are counting on you. Your years of highly skilled training, work experience and attention to detail will ensure you are afforded clear and concise assessments throughout. Keep the pressure on.
Here's to a successful outcome and return to a normal lifestyle for Alex.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -

May the surgeon's hands be steady, mind be keen, and cutting thingies sharp. And, hope the team taking care of your grandson is smoother than any submarine crew.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -

Thanks all,
We just heard that everything went very well and according to plan. They had to leave ~ 1% of the tumor due to it being attached to the nerves that control hearing and swallowing. They had to do the same thing when he was five, but since he is almost through puberty, there is expected to be less of the hormones that caused it to come back. We all hope that to be the case. They do expect him to have some short-term neurological deficits due to the price of the real estate they were playing around in, but these are expected to resolve quickly.Alex was very good about this going in to the procedure, his biggest worry was how much of his hair they were going to have to shave, until it was explained to him that they would likely place a Foley catheter after he was under:

Hopefully he had a cute nurse put that foley in for him. Glad to hear things went as planned. I was 100% bald for about 6 weeks post cancer surgery at 19 years old. And I got a big noggin. Wasn’t a pretty site
-
Thanks for the positive update. Youth have remarkable recovery characteristics. He will exceed all challenges.
Bald is where it's at. He may like the look so much he goes with it full time.
