Just finished a shift with OBR at a fund raiser for them in Louisville. Slow pace compared with disaster relief.  But good fun.

Wrapping briskets. I’ll make a standalone thread for this one.

I just saw a meat church video where he recommends resting it as long as you smoked it. Smoke for 17 hours, rest for 17 hours.  I will admit that the longer I've rested it, the better it tasted. Anyone else? Do you have the flexibility to try it? Did you post your new thread? I did not see it.

My whole weekend meal schedule and planning has just been ripped to shreds, and I'm devastated.  My carefully-portioned sections of skirt steak from the freezer have been thawed and marinated, and then today at lunch I realize my pkg of flour tortillas did not have 8 tortillas in it, it only had SIX!!  wtff!?!?!
Nobody puts just six tortillas into a pkg!!  :anguished:

    How long are your outings?
For several weeks we only stayed out a few hours because we was getting nothing. That old Cummins will run up a heck of a fuel bill quick when you are not catching.
However today we tried something a little different than usual. We didn’t hit the water until 7:00am. 6 hours later was headed to shore loaded pretty good. Had we had more ice we would have stayed out until dark.

Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

    Status- Standing by.

Pic four is Basin Head. Beautiful, beautiful park with great sandbars. It was busier than other beaches we visited though.

Beautiful pics. We did the East Coast (all but Newfoundland due to time shortage) about two decades ago, time flew!

Spectacular trip.  Great sightseeing and banquets as a bonus.  Way to enjoy summer.

I got up this morning to workout and discovered my dumba$$ son left the freezer door slightly open. Things are, for the most part, mostly frozen but starting to thaw. Does the collective think that everything will be ok or should I just toss it.

It's fine, except the ice cream. Texture will never be the same. RIP ice cream.

I’d check all of the food. Some areas of the freezer may have thawed more than others. That’s what happened to me recently during a power outage. I thought everything was ok until I got to the back of the top rack in the freezer section of my basement side by side.

My latest freezer debacle (total loss) led me to purchase one of these. The wife says I am obsessed with checking it now. Just go to the app and check current temp. You can also set it to send you alerts if temp rises above your settings.

Cook or plan to cook shortly the softer items.  Beef and pork stuff wouldn’t be to concerned about.  Fish, shellfish, chicken, etc may want to cook soon if it got soft.

overall you’re probably fine just quality issue.

@Battleborn Things happen, don't be too hard on your son. When is the block party, btw  ;)
Related PSA: Recently this dumba$$ forgot to turn the thermostat back on after partially de-icing a chest freezer. Thankfully I realised it before hitting the sack about 8-9 hours later. The early generation non-wifi Thermoworks fridge/freezer did not go off.

I agree, Quebec City is fabulous; spent a lot of time in Quebec (admittedly more in Montreal) during college.

Glad to see these now; I’m starting to plan out a trip through the maritimes for next summer.  How long was your trip?  If it’s ok I may ping you a bit later; my great grandparents had a place just over the border from Maine, so I spent a decent amount of time in NB growing up, but haven’t been since a high school summer trip to Halifax and PEI, which was equal parts sightseeing and baseball.

Newfoundland is on my wife’s bucket list, but will need to wait for a solo trip, most likely flying straight to St John’s (or Gander to satisfy my daughter’s theater kid nature and affection for Come From Away).

I am envious of your (or your wife’s) plans for Newfoundland. Have always heard it was idyllic. My sister was staying in St John’s with friends last month and loved it.

Feel free to connect with me if looking for some ideas in Quebec City or in PEI. This was maybe my fifth trip to Quebec City, but only my second to PEI (the first having occurred some thirty years ago). A disclaimer that I am likely not the best resource given my lack of recent experience, but am nonetheless happy to share my limited knowledge. Both excellent destinations, IMO. My wife and I honeymooned in Quebec City years ago and being there again helped remind me what a special city it is.

I love Montreal. Always thought I might live there, but the stars never quite aligned. Both a B-I-L and S-I-L lived there for a spell and loved it.

It was a quick trip to PEI and Quebec City. Left Ottawa on Saturday at about 1:00am. Arrived 20 mins outside of Charlottetown in the late afternoon Saturday (15 hours or so, with brief stops) and stayed five nights. Drove to Quebec City (9 hours or so, with stops) and stayed at a very centrally-located AirBnB for two nights. Left Quebec City Saturday afternoon (late because I took my wife on a clothing shopping tear!) and we were back home in Ottawa that evening (4.5 hour drive or so). Duration of the visit felt about right - though I should mention that work was such that I couldn’t afford more time away so we were a little bit restricted in that regard.

Still haven’t seen Halifax, despite having been to Cape Breton not too long back. Wish I had visited. Hopefully, the sands of time are in my favour and I will get the chance at some point.

Basin Head is one of my favorite places on earth!!
    "The Singing Sands".
We returned recently from an East Coast trip ourselves.
A few of our favorite culinary spots were The Narrows in Halifax, Water Prince Corner Shop in Charlottetown (Gotta Eat Here) and Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, NS.
Of course there was no shortage of Lobster Rolls!
For the golfers out there I would also highly recommend Cabot Cliffs in Cape Breton and The Links of Crowbush Cove in PEI.

We Live way out in the backwoods and we freeze a cup of water, when it is frozen over, we place a quarter on it.  It wll give you a pretty good idea of how good idea your frozen goods are.

At Basin Head, we found four crabs on the sandbars. My kids loved it. Lots of people doing elaborate jumps off the pedestrian bridge. Seemed a little wild.

Didn’t catch the Water Prince, despite being right there! I like “You Gotta Eat Here”. Years ago, they profiled one of the best restaurants that was under the radar in our area.

Sounds like you had a great trip.

Looking forward to restarting the weekly futbol diatribe from @CPFC1905.  I haven't had a lot of time to actually watch the games over the past year or so, so I think I'm looking forward to tomorrow's weekend preview even more than the games themselves at this point.
