Canughhead is going to be disappointed when he realizes the Blue Jays can't win a Stanley Cup.

I agree.  Umps made the right call on this.  I saw a post that said Naylor took this like a champ.  My first thought was he blocked it like a cheater.

Jays have a better chance than the Leafs at the Stanley Cup.

Eight games in and we start to get in to the real meat of the season.   Teams are bedded in, fitness, squad depth and managerial pressure will start to tell from here.  Liverpool have ‘clumped’ to 4th, old favourite Arsenal and Man City sit in the box seats.  Bournemouth look out of place in 3rd while Wolves, West Ham and Forest currently languish in the bottom three.  All of that will change, albeit West Ham and Wolves better start thinking about being better soon.

    Tonight

Leeds vs West Ham - winnable for the Dirty Leeds unless a big performance from the recently flaccid Hammers manifests up in chilly Yorkshire. I can envisage a home win, but the Hammers will be focussed on the point available for a draw.  Hard fought 1-1.

    Saturday

Newcastle vs Fulham - bizarrely this is 14th hosting 15th.  The Toon really do need to start stringing results together or Eddie will be under huge pressure, but results don’t lie and perhaps this is as good as this season’s Cottagers are?  2-1

Chelsea vs Sunderland - back to winning ways for the Blues, despite a new found fondness for red cards.  The Maccems will need to channel all their early season luck and endeavour to come away with anything from this one.  Reality bites. 2-0

Man United vs Brighton - ethical dilemma meets mathematical impossibility,  as obviously I want both to lose.  Because; this could be a third straight win for Utd and the media coverage will be intolerable, and, because it’s the filthy Seagulls.  Painful choice either way; 2-1

Brentford vs Liverpool - the Reds came good mid-week in Europe and perhaps that means the good time are back?  No one foresaw three defats on the swing, in the league.  I don’t think the Bees are good enough to keep out an on-song Reds. 0-2

    Sunday

Arsenal vs Palace - regression to the mean for the mighty Eagles. Long unbeaten run has come shuddering to an end with two losses in the three.  Good fight back last week against the Cherries, but - and this matters, they had the chances to bury the game.  As they did against Everton.  A salutary lesson in looking beyond the headlines.  I don’t we much charity afforded by a Gunners team riding high on skill and confidence. 1-0

Villa vs Man City - ought to be a business as usual three points for City, but both teams are in solid form - only separated in the table by the very poor start of the season by Villa.   Close but quality count sin the end.  1-2

Bournemouth vs Forest -  signs of progress under new man (to Forest, but PL well-seasoned) Dyche although travelling to the 3rd place Cherries is probably a step too far for now.  2-0

Wolves vs Burnley, bottom host 4th bottom and the slenderest of better form margins lies with the Clarets who beat Leeds last week.  Little chance of an elegant game for the ages as both are already aiming solely to shore up, not move up in the table.  An ugly one-nil either way does the trick and I am going with Burnley because that managed it last week.  0-1.

Everton vs Spurs - much better season for the Toffees but Spurs are also a very different kettle of fish from last season.  Could be the best game of the weekend and it’s very tight to call, as the hosts have settled well in to their new home. 2-2

That’s your lot for this week. I can’t hang about because I’ve got 5lbs of beef joint, Silverside not brisket, to look at while I mull over direct or indirect options for tomorrow. It’ll be on the Large for at least two hours come what may.

Other girls may try to take me away
But you know, it's by your side I will stay

@SGH was much more than benevolent in letting that Shirley go, especially to a ground pounder.  I saw that rig, live and in colour (nod) Wednesday and it is a beast, especially for any backyard chefing.  Build quality is unsurpassed as many here know.
The meetup with @thetrim was most enjoyable.  Glad I was able to make it happen again this year.  Next time, his buy!  B)
