Here are/were my Italian style sandwiches which I fixed for us tonight!

What you quite obviously can NOT see is how I sliced each sausage length-wise then inserted a sliced piece of pepper jack cheese inside each piece after having FIRST spread some Dijon mustard on both sides of a fresh HD bun! Of course the green peppers and onions really improved  our meal

What’s the thread title about?  Slicing them?
  • I think that's a great idea.  And that all looks and sounds delicious to me, Ron.

Looks good, but I have never liked Bell peppers. They smell and taste funny to me. Wish I could like them though, they make a purty sammich!!

I do a mix. Bell, Anaheim, Italian, pepperdoo, peperoncinni....you can skip bell.  I'll add mustard and Italian house dressing to the pan of peppers before taking it off the heat

I respect your opinion of not liking something! I'm in that group who hates cilantro as it tastes like soap to me!

For the naysayers - there is proof! Here is one such article explaining why.

I still think someone should make cilantro scented soap.

Looks great Ron.  I like bell peppers too.

I'd probably dice it up with the 10 knives I carry around at all times so it's easier to digest, plus less chewing.  Win win.

Not your fault.  Genetics, environment and culture influence what tastes good or bad.  Super tasters (genetics) perceive tastes differently.  Some people can’t sense different chemicals than other people.  The asparagus pee smell is only detected by a fraction of the population, for example.  Some chemicals are perceived differently (caraway and wintergreen taste the same for some people differently for others).  There are isomers that are interpreted differently, as the 3D shape shape is different between stereo isomers.  SWMBO has a completely different sense of taste than I, makes for a smaller “like” union in our taste Venn diagram and that influences what’s for dinner.

Yep.  To some people, sauvignon blanc from the Marlborough region of New Zealand tastes like cat pee.  I've one of them.  I consider it evidence of a superior palate. :-)

Bringing it back to this discussion, there's nothing wrong with green bell peppers, but once you add them they become the dominant flavor of whatever you're eating.

Correct! First green…then mellow CONSIDERABLY to red. And then they become EXTREMEY and nearly tasteless when they turn yellow!

    Yellow are best fresh.

    Green have to be cooked.

    Red are great any way.
This is clearly the correct interpretation of bell peppers.

Asparagus has never made my pee taste funny. And I like cilantro. Never really thought about the taste of the different colors of bell peppers. But thinking about it now, it seems like green is earthier. Might need a blind taste test to confirm.
