I smell a business opportunity.  I will provide warranty parts obtained legally for eggs purchased in the US in exchange for Crown Royal...

Do you drink that straight or sweeten it up a bit with coke?
I prefer sprite with my crown.

If I move from UK to Canada and take the Eggs with me, does anyone know if the warranty will be honoured in Canada? I've asked this question in the UK (they didn't know, but said they would honour warranty claims if someone moved Eggs to the UK) and emailed the mothership (no response in over a month). This assumes that the Eggs get to Canada in one piece, of course, but if they don't that's an insurance claim.

Maybe the wise @The_Buffalo would know?
The answer is yes, as long you meet all requirements of the warranty. (receipt, didn't crack them in the move, didn't void the warranty in anyway, etc.)
Interesting. Things may have changed, AFAIK most if not all Canadian dealers refuse to warranty eggs bought 'legally' in the US at a significantly lower price.
Well, I suppose it's way more uncommon to emigrate vs. cross border bargain hunting, big difference.

  • I've owned my first BGE since 1996 and have moved abuncha times since then, including putting all 5 eggs in storage for 4 months, just this past year. Never have any gotten broken or damaged in a move. Moving sucks a big one, but your eggs will likely be fine. Read the riot act to the movers and/or tape caution instructions to your eggs. Try to look at the big picture and get the move over with. Start drinking all that wine out of your wine fridge!! Best of luck to you!
Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

    The warranty page says this:

Warranty claims must be made through an Authorized Dealer or Distributor within the original country of purchase.

So, you might have to file your claim in the UK.  Seems dumb.
Given this, you might want to sell what you have now @Stormbringer and buy new in Canada.  By removing the shipping costs you might not come out too far in the red.
Isn't Canada part of the UK?
No No No.  I thought France controlled Canada????
You are right!  They do speak French, but they love the Queen.  Maybe both France and UK have ownership?  Like joint custody

Sorry I beg to disagree with cautioning the movers, in his case op will be better off using the insurance payout to purchase new eggs in Canada and sleep well at night not having to worry about potential egg warranty dispute down the road  =)

I wouldn’t have thought the warranty would be honoured (you’ll be able to continue to spell this correctly even after your move 😉), but looks like The Buff One has corrected my understanding.

Years back, when I had a used and non-warrantied Egg, a dealer had mentioned helping me out in the event of any claims if I purchased accessories and such from him in the interim. Never had to avail myself of his offer and eventually replaced my used BGEs with new ones.

@The_Buffalo thanks. I'll reach out to BGE UK and see if they will provide proof of receipts. And print out a copy of this thread. ;)

    Joking aside...
Agree with selling and repurchase. However, if breakage insurance is not significant and you want to keep your egg(s) for sentimental reason may be it's worth pursuing the warranty?
I know BGE Canada features eggheads' cooks in FB regularly. Perhaps if you can get their attention and showcase your blog and amazing BGE cooks, they'd want to work with you as a brand ambassador?  Heck, they may waive the warranty bureaucracy or even give you free eggs  =)
@Canugghead that's a great idea. Our plan was to re-invigorate the blog when we get to Canada, something along the lines of Egging-by-the-lake.

When/if you buy new eggs, scan the receipts. Makes warranty claims, or business like this much easier to deal with. The last warranty claim I made, took all of 1 min to find my receipts in Dropbox, and send to the dealer.

@The_Buffalo I reached out to BGE Canada. They responded by quoting the paragraph of the warranty whereby warranty claims must be made in the country of purchase. They did offer me a "Compassion Warranty" though, which is 50% off the list price of items.

Only other thing I could think of is that I would claim in the UK and the UK informs Canada to ship something but that seems like a lot of hassle. Assuming that would even be a thing. A shame but there you go.

  • If the buffalo says you’re good you’re good. Obviously you have deeper rooted hesitations about moving to Canada and that I can understand. Let’s address the real issue.

Must be a dealer thing, I picked up my egg in the US and have no issues here in Canada as well as others I know. My original dealer no longer sells eggs in the US though, maybe that's why I got lucky? I saved 50% on my large buying in the US so it was worth the risk

Bummer. Remember though, in Canada the buck stops at the Moose 🤣 (no offense to @The_Buffalo)
