The “like” was mine, brother @legume. I have no doubt that should the trend continue, this is a distinct possibility. All the more terrifying.

The saving grace is that we know we can catch the war plans via Signal prior to attack. 😉

Love America and its people (minus one, maybe).

I say this with all respect….

It is tragically sad watching this implosion, in real time, on so many fronts.

To the outside world, how he was elected, and re-elected after his first term and all that it entailed, is beyond all comprehension. Even if by some miracle his tactics were ultimately to result in great financial benefit to the country, the cost to democracy will have been so great as to disfigure the nation into a grotesque perversion of its once great self.

    Godspeed, U.S.A.
Imagine living through this, here. Its a veritable shitshow. And, a dangerous one, at that.

I feel for you. Truly do.

Our media is increasingly reporting on the professionals leaving the U.S. to move here, or otherwise, of professionals who had plans to head there but are instead staying put. Our gain of course, but it is telling. Canary in the coal mine.

CHEETO owns this along with his acolytes (never mind the D's who totally f'ed a campaign opportunity or the Senate in 2019 and 2021 who could have convicted CHEETO thus precluding his running again).  But we are here so we have to deal with the F'Tard.
About the only saving grace for me is time-he runs out the clock January 20, 2029 despite his teasers.  Sight unseen, anyone following would be a relief.
    I loathe CHEETO.

Can't agree with this one, Cap'n.  Yeah, the Constitution forbids him from running for a third term, but it also forbids him from holding office NOW; the Constitution doesn't matter anymore.  And within his first 3 months he's already voiced the "possibility" of a third term.
And I doubt that he'll be alive that long, either from his own health, political stress, or his former billionaire supporters who're taking a stock market bath right now.  I really don't think he'll he'll live out this term.
And, "anyone following would be a relief." ???
Hell no.  Theile's boy "Hetero-Sectional" vance is slightly more intelligent, and even more christo-fascist; same with the third-in-line, mike johnson.
We're in for a really rough ride, now.   :|

  • The GDP forecast is now at -2.8%.

This is will be known as the Trump Recession in the history books (except in Florida of course).

At first glance, I thought you had linked to an Article from The Atlantic. I hear they have great sources.

Haha. I actually subscribed to the Atlantic after Goldberg released the “attack” plans. Courage in journalism is severely lacking these days.

Been watching the hearings. The stonewalling is jaw dropping. The gang claims they don’t remember anything about the exchanges. Patel, Gabbard and Ratcliffe are an embarrassment to the nation, nevermind Hegseth. Besides amnesia, they contend the info wasn’t classified.

More good times in store tomorrow.

    Trump Recession.

  • @DoubleEgger’s above comments reminded me of Trump’s proclamations in October.

As reported by The New York Times:
“We will begin a new era of soaring incomes. Skyrocketing wealth. Millions and millions of new jobs and a booming middle class. We are going to boom like we’ve never boomed before.”

    Monday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION

"The Trump administration’s decision to deport a Maryland man to a notorious El Salvador prison appears to be “wholly lawless,” a federal judge wrote yesterday in a legal opinion explaining her Friday order for the government to bring the man back to the United States by the end of today. The DOJ has appealed the order. Kyle Cheney, Hassan Ali Kanu, and Josh Gerstein report for POLITICO; Priscilla Alvarez and Emily R. Condon report for CNN.

The conservative-backed legal nonprofit New Civil Liberties Alliance last week filed a challenge over the legality of Trump’s tariffs launched earlier this year on all Chinese imports on behalf of a Florida-based stationery company, arguing the decision was made without legal authority. Maegan Vazquez reports for the Washington Post.

The Supreme Court on Friday ruled 5-4 to allow Trump to temporarily freeze millions of dollars in teacher shortage grants to states, holding that if states ultimately win their pending challenge to the move, they would be able to recover any wrongfully held funds through further litigation. John Fritze, Tierney Sneed and Devan Cole report for CNN.

A federal judge on Friday permanently barred the Trump administration from limiting National Institutes of Health funding that supports research at universities and academic medical centers. The government asked the court to enter this verdict earlier on Friday so that it can appeal it. Zach Montague reports for the New York Times.

The Trump administration is temporarily blocked from dismantling the Inter-American Foundation, an agency that funds community development groups in Latin American and Caribbean countries, after a federal judge on Friday ruled the government does not have the authority to remove the Foundation’s head. Michael Kunzelman reports for AP News.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the case of a Tufts doctoral student detained by federal immigration officials to be moved to Vermont, denying the government’s request to hold the proceedings in Louisiana. Anemona Hartocollis reports for the New York Times

The Attorneys General of sixteen states on Friday sued the Trump administration over withholding grant funding from public health and medical research institutions. Soumya Karlamangla and Benjamin Mueller report for the New York Times.

A group of federal employee unions on Thursday filed a challenge to the Trump administration’s bid to strip union representation from about a million federal workers. Rebecca Davis O’Brien reports for the New York Times."

    From today's "Next Draft" email:

Even Trump's loudest (and most financially supportive) backers aren't backing this. WSJ (Gift Article): Wall Street Starts to Speak Out Against Trump’s Tariffs.

+ "What happened on Wednesday ... was a case of him doing exactly what he’d promised to do and what he’s wanted to do for decades." James Surowiecki in The Atlantic (Gift Article): Wall Street Blew It.

+ "Anyone hoping that Trump will soon see the light and reverse course might want to reconsider the force of nature that they’re dealing with. He has been insulated from the consequences of his own actions his entire life and appears to care very little about the economic sinkhole he just created. He shared a video of himself golfing over the weekend and one White House insider told the Washington Post that the president, only about three months into his second term, carries the burdens of a notoriously burdensome job rather lightly. 'He’s at the peak of just not giving a f--- anymore.'" (So is my stock broker.) Timothy O'Brien in BloombergTrump Created an Economic Sinkhole. He Doesn’t Care.

    Tuesday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION

"In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court yesterday vacated a lower court’s order temporarily blocking the Trump administration from using the Alien Enemies Act of 1789 as the legal basis for the deportation of immigrants, ruling that the case should have been brought as a habeas petition where the detainees were located, Texas. The Court stated that the Act can be relied on in future only if the deportees are provided with an opportunity to contest their deportation in court before being removed. Separately, Chief Justice John Roberts yesterday issued a brief stay of a deadline for the Trump administration to return a Maryland man mistakenly deported to El Salvador, hours after DOJ lawyers appealed the Friday decision that ordered the government to return the man. Rebecca Beitsch and Zach Schonfeld report for the Hill; Adam Liptak reports for the New York Times.

A federal appeals court yesterday split 7-4 to reinstate Gwynne Wilcox, a member of the National Labor Relations Board, and Cathy Harris, the chair of the federal Merit Systems Protection Board, to the jobs from which Trump removed them. The government is likely to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court, setting up a potential challenge to a decades-old limit to presidential power to fire the leaders of independent agencies. Lauren Kaori Gurley reports for the Washington Post.

An appeals court yesterday declined to lift an order temporarily blocking the Trump administration from fast-tracking deportations of people to countries other than their countries of origin without first allowing them to show they may face a risk of persecution or torture. Nate Raymond reports for Reuters.

The Education Department and the Office of Personnel Management can now share some of the sensitive personal data they hold with DOGE after an appeals court agreed to stay an order prohibiting them from disclosing their records to the DOGE team. Although the Treasury Department was also included in the appeal court’s order, a separate injunction continues to block it from sharing its data. Ella Lee reports for the Hill.

The Maine Attorney General yesterday challenged the Agriculture Department’s (USDA) recent decision to withhold federal funds from the state over its refusal to comply with the Trump administration's ban on transgender athletes’ participation in girls’ and women’s sports. Brooke Migdon reports for the Hill."
