Kind of a business/pleasure/real estate shopping trip. My Beautiful Wife has rented a 100 year old cabin in Thompson Canyon. Very beautiful area, love hearing the river roll, 24/7. Great to see the recovery in the area after such a disaster out flood a few years back.

The cabin came with an outdoor electric grill(due to fire hazards) and making the best of it. We

Hope the trip is enjoyable and productive.  I know that area well.  If RMNP gets too crowded give Poudre Canyon a look see.  Also, the drive from Estes to Nederland is beautiful.  Kathmandu restaurant in Nederland has a worthwhile lunch buffet if Tibetan fare does it for you.
Say "hi" to the mountains for me.  🙂

Thank you for the information, we frequent Colorado/Wyoming annually, it seems, and our next trip will likely include your suggestions. We did some hiking, real estate shopping, a concert and met some members of this forum this trip. Estes to Nederland is a beautiful drive. This time we did US287 up towards Laramie, Red Feather Lakes, that region.

We did some hiking/backpacking, spending a considerable portion 9K+ ASL. We did the west side of RMNP that suffered the incredible carbonization of the Forest. If yo are in to wildflowers, this was the place to be, luckily it coincided with our backpacking into the Green Mountain trail. (One that Suzy and I have enjoyed a few times previously) Upon first glance, it was indeed a bummer to say the least; the damage was brutal. Burnt charred trees lay on the ground, with burnt trees of no hope to regenerate left standing like b
sticks waiting to fall over. At one point on the trail to Granite Falls, it became worrisome that we could be injured or killed by falling burnt out pine trees we made it to within sight of where a regular forest remained, before a the real threats of fallen trees were an issue.

However once we were on the trail, we realized what a unique experience it became with wildflowers (like I have never seen before, anywhere, in RMNP), and flowing streams due to the amount of snow still remaining at 10,000 ft and above.

The burnt ground was bare from decades of forest vegetation, consumed by the fire, leaving the soil hard as concrete from the intense heat.

We also had the good fortune to hook-up with @The Cen-Tex Smoker and @Lugume for lunch and then a show at Red Rocks.

It was a fantastic trip, one I can’t wait to repeat.

I know the iPhone 13 is giving me fits. We looked up in NE Colorado, found a patch of acreage we are debating on whether to purchase or ?

Met up with @legume and @the Cen Tex Smoker. It was a great time. They bot spoke fondly of you, even after we told them the stories. (expanded upon, I must admit), of our friendship and the Blasts.

Hope to see you again soon.

Thank you Frank. It did, we are considering a purchase of a parcel that had been presented in North East Colorado, approximately 40 minutes south of Laramie.

    RMNP:
This is one of my favorite photos of the trip, wild flowers at elevation only have a short time to bloom, and we saw waves of them, in a painter’s palette of colors. The other reason I like this image, as it shows the progression of the vegetation growth at  different altitudes, lush lower levels, sun alpine, (beneath the tree line) and alpine where only tundra is evident. The dark green on those mountains are 30-40 ft trees.

that was the East side, and the most popular entrance from Estes Park.

This is from the area that wildfires destroyed:
I hope you can see the wildflowers, more than I had seen anywhere in RMNP, waves surrounded us as we hiked.

Compared to this picture, which we experienced similar on a previous trip, same trail:
It was a very unique and educational trip, for certain.

So can you confirm that @Legume is a real person and not just another one of Carey’s troll accounts, as has been suggested?  ;)

Love love love that area. You likely already know about Spirit Hound Distillery @YukonRon but just in case...check it out. One of my favorites on the planet.

We spent 14 days between Estes Park and Dubois last summer. I want to retire there. Wifey is cold natured but I'm working on her.

My Beautiful Wife, and I were holding hands, walking around Lake Irene, one of her most favorite places on earth, after backpacking deep off trail, told me that was the area she wanted to live.

I am kinda not exactly there, but hey, I am good with it. I love the Northwest, and think a place that would center us in all the places we love (Glacier, Yellow Stone, Tetons, Olympic, Yosemite, Moab, etc., the corresponding areas managed by BLM) would be a better location, but, one thing I have learned the term “yes dear” is magic, when pertaining to matrimonial bliss. I go where she will go. Her choice in location is far better than her choice in men, for sure. I am good with it.

We have been to many distilleries, living in Louisville, where we have maybe 20(?) or more located with 30 minutes from our home. Spirit is a cool trip to be sure, and worth the visit for anyone who is out there.

Good luck in warming her up to the idea. Hope it works out for you.

1 in 10 respond to my unsolicited DMs, so you’re rare in my book.  I could’ve done without the unsolicited, very personal pics, but I do appreciate you responding at least. Hope your trip to Colorado was good and I’d get a doctor to look at that other thing if I were you.
    LMAO

    We had a great trip.
