Given the world we live in (at least south of the GWN) I don't see this type of anger and rage abating and will likely only increase. I believe that a supporting factor is the 24/7 news cycle that sends the stories around the world in short order. When such events are confined to the local and perhaps regional media (print and video) the "look at me" driver would carry a whole lot less weight. But just an opinion...Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Since mass shootings are on the increase and the term "mass shootings" is "eye balls on the screen for media", below is a link that loosely defines a mass shootingAnd to further muddy the water-"in the United States, there are several different, but common, definitions of mass shootings. The Congressional Research Service defines mass shootings, as multiple, firearm, homicide incidents, involving 4 or more victims at one or more locations close to one another. The FBI definition is essentially the same. Often there is a distinction made between private and public mass shootings (e.g., a school, place of worship, or a business establishment). Mass shootings undertaken by foreign terrorists are not included, no matter how many people die or where the shooting occurs."I am just trying to present the many differences in the definition. Any wack job who goes on a shooting rampage is a mass shooter-parsing the numbers aside.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Doesn't want to get near any legislative or policy changes he would offer as that will cross the base and he can't go there. Spineless right there.

Apparently the new "moneymaker" for Ewetube are the "shorts", which are about a minute long and just allow, essentially, a sound-bite or two. I'm not really happy about this constriction, but this one from Jon Stewart deserves a reposting:

And here's an interesting tidbit about drugs, AND guns, regarding Mexico: many repubnicans are calling for bombing Mexico. But, most of the drug lords are based here in the US, who are funding, and arming them (google "The Iron River" (and the two or three here who need to do this, won't)). Arms possession in Mexico, by citizens, is not legal.
By all moral measures, Mexico should be bombing us.

Some observations from a commentator:"The phrase man bites dog is a shortened version of an aphorism in journalism that describes how an unusual, infrequent event (such as a man biting a dog) is more likely to be reported as news than an ordinary, everyday occurrence with similar consequences, such as a dog biting a man." Sadly, man shooting a lot of innocent people with a high-powered, automatic weapon is America's ultimate dog bites man story. It will be followed by another story almost too common and predictable to report: Lawmakers doing nothing to address the issue. "

" Democratic Rep. Jared Golden of Maine changed his views on assault weapons this week. "I have opposed efforts to ban deadly weapons of war, like the assault rifle used to carry out this crime. The time has now come for me to take responsibility for this failure. Which is why I now call on the United States Congress to ban assault rifles like the one used by the sick perpetrator of this mass killing in my hometown of Lewiston, Maine." It was someone's hometown last time. It will be someone else's hometown next time.
+ "Today, as my wife and I stay locked in our home—the gunman, still on the loose, is the subject of a sprawling manhunt—I am filled with nothing so much as rage. Rage at my gun-nut friends from home who will see this tragedy as a reason for less gun control, rather than more of it. Rage at every conservative pundit who has ever uttered the phrase 'good guy with a gun.' Rage at the state of Maine, which has some of the most lax gun laws in the country. Rage at the politicians here and beyond who have refused to solve a problem for which solutions readily exist. Rage at myself for being so blind." Tyler Austin Harper in The Atlantic: I saw the gun-violence epidemic—and my relationship to it as a gun owner—as an abstraction. Then a mass shooting happened in the little city where I work."
