Worth a read and hopefully the link to the included Washington Post article works:
"Scot Peterson ingratiated himself to the Parkland community after he became the school resource officer for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2009. He was honored by the sheriff’s office in 2014 as its school resource officer of the year for proving he was 'reliable in handling issues with tact and judgment.'" That was then. Before Feb. 14, 2018, the day a gunman killed 17 people at the school where he worked. WaPo (Gift Article): He was called a ‘coward’ after Parkland. Now he faces trial. "Peterson is gearing up to defend himself at a trial that is believed to mark the first time a U.S. police officer faces trial in connection with alleged inaction during a school shooting." What about the lawmakers in Congress who are guilty of inaction when it comes to limiting access to the weapons that enable these school massacres? Taking action on that issue would take a lot less guts than running into a building where bullets are flying. One parent of a murdered child explained he hopes this case sends a message to all school officers: "If you choose to do nothing, you will be held accountable." Another parent of a victim said, "He was supposed to be ‘the good guy with the gun.’ It was his job to go into that building. And he froze ... Even though the coward did not pull the trigger, he left my kid to die." Choosing to do nothing? Leaving kids to die? It seems to me that behavior is not limited to those who were at the scene of the crime.

It isn’t all that long an article, Gary.  And it’s worth reading in full, in my opinion.  There’s quite a bit there in the way of facts and information I hadn’t read before.

Not the first time I have read articles pointing to the changed direction of firearms advertising as a major driver in the climate of this country on this issue today.

Ordering a few dozen rolls of that clear tape Nikki is pushing just to be safe. At least until I find a tailor who can make me some shirts with that "tactical" fabric John Wick wears.

Multiple gunshots (too many to count on video/audio) this afternoon at the Ogden Community College, just north of me.  Phuck.

I was surprised this wasn't mentioned on the nightly news here, last night.  It wasn't at the Community College, but in an apartment complex next door; restraining order violation.  The gunman was killed and one policeman injured.
The third video in the story here shows the first segment I saw locally.  I think I could hear 14 separate gunshots, but can't be sure.

I don't support the death penalty but there really are some cases where i feel like I should reconsider that belief.

    Read this today-
"STAT OF THE DAY — June was the 47th consecutive month in which more than 1 million guns were sold in the U.S., per FBI data."
Besides each other, who is the enemy here??

I wonder why the murder rate isn't gong up as fast as gun sales?

The vast majority of gun sales go to people who already have them….it’s a meaningless comparison, numb-nuts.

They still believe Obama is going to take their guns so gotta buy more, more, more to build up that stash.

  • Friendly reminder that homes with guns are more likely to have an accident, suicide or domestic assault than a home defense situation. So please practice and encourage gun safety reminders every time guns are mentioned.  This is absolutely critical in homes with children and homes where alcohol is consumed. It is absolutely ok to ask friends, family and other parents about their gun safety practices. Stay safe and mentally healthy and hopefully we can change the statistics because guns are not going away.

So why fight the sale of guns then? If its just the same people buying you have no worries. I do believe many gun sales are going to first time buyers though. I just keep hearing all the snowflakes crying about more guns puts us all in more danger. More guns aren't swinging the murder rate either way. Especially at the rate they are selling. Just calm down.
