I like AOC. I agree with @nolaegghead that she draws hatred/ridicule for much the same reasons that Hillary does - she's smart, articulate, and forceful.

That she irritates cranky old wingnuts so much is just icing on the cake!

those same people think she’s an idiot for what it’s worth..

College doesn’t make you smart. It trains you similar to how life experience can train you. In both cases, it’s what you take from those environments that helps you or hinders you.

The post about AOC doesn’t say she’s smart because she went to college, it lists several achievements and recognitions that demonstrate others recognize she is smart relative to her peer group, just as you are recognizing your friends are smart, relative to your circle of friends and acquaintances.

My circle of friends at SDSU reserved a campsite in a state park in MN every year, for a long weekend (can't remember which).  It was a fairly large campsite, and very remote from the rest of the park, and we were beer drinkers.  Open containers were illegal in MN state parks back then.  But we had fun, OMG we had fun!  Fishing, drinking, canoeing, cooking, drinking, singing, horseshoes, drinking, campfires, and hearing Lisa with the high, shrill, loud voice waking up the whole camp with, "OMG, it's only 4:30 am!", and then hearing "Me:" (not me) cracking the first canned beer at 6:30 am.  
At the end of the weekend, the site was scrubbed clean.  No trash anywhere, park cans completely filled with empty beer cans and trash, and filled trashbags with the rest of the cans neatly sealed and set next to the trash point.  
 
The next year "Kris" called the park to reserve the site again:
Kris:  "Hello, we used campsite XYZ last year, for this weekend, and would like to use it again..."
MN State Park official:  <shuffles papers>, "Oh, were you the kids from SDSU who drank all the beer?"
Kris:  "Uh..."
MN SP official:  "We'd already reserved that spot again for you, this year; you kids were so quiet and left the site so spotless!"  
Kris:  "Uh, OK, thanks!  See you Thursday night!"  
 
 
Two summers ago I drove to Des Moines for another college reunion (different group/college) and as the campfire was going out, I realized one lady had had a glass of wine, one guy was nursing a beer, and the rest of us were drinking soda, iced tea, or bottled water.  Aging; it's an interesting journey.
