Along the way to a math degree one develops a fairly honed set of critical thinking skills.  If you want a degree in math, you have got to be able to think.

I stayed up super late last night upgrading my printer.  I have to do a firmware upgrade next before configuring the BT Touch auto leveling feature I added.  it's a nice upgrade because leveling is the biggest PITA and being out of level causes cascade errors in any print.

What causes it to be out of level?  Non-uniform solidification of the plastic?

How does the system detect it is out of level?

The build surface rids on a gantry that moves in the Y axis.  Regardless of it being stationary or whatever configuration you have, there are a few variables that need to be compensated for.  There are alignment knobs (4) in the X/Y plane.  There is unevenness on the build platform, which can be switched out between magnetic, glass, etc.  Setting the alignment knobs is a delicate process, the auto leveling does it electronically by taking depth measurements (using a plastic prob that lowers to touch the surface, retracts, moves and repeats).  The depth measurements build a surface map in cartesian coordinates that is digitally applied to the z axis as a function of x,y or I guess that would be z(x,y).

I worked at a broad form of energy company where we were 3D printing metal with lasers. We'd put down a thin layer of metal powder over the entire printing surface and then hit what we wanted with the laser. Pretty cool stuff. I will not let these threads talk me into a printer. I will not let these threads talk me into a printer. I will not let these threads talk me into a printer.

I take it you use that ruler to measure how well the Levitra is working for you?

@nolaegghead is your laser an attachment for the 3d printer or a standalone device?  Can you post the link for the one you have?

My friend sent a text at 1:58 this morning and it was a clip to the song "Do The Stanky Leg". That makes a whole lot more sense now after reading this...
