The greatest barrier against all wisdom, the stronghold against knowledge itself, is the single thought, in ones mind, that they already have it all figured out. -
Thanks, Scottie! Here I was about to tell you about all the chain saws I have owned (and pitched)!
41 years ago one from Monkey Ward!!! Then 2 Homelite POS, a REALLY REALLY POS electric Remington, but now a Stihl 18" which rocks when it runs!!! BUT I have spent at least another $200 getting it to run (about half the price I paid for it!).
My biggest regret? I should have spent more than the $29.95 I spent for a terrific hand saw which will cut thru a log like it was butter...as long as my arm will hold out!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
@RRP I just got a Stihl 18" and so far it works great. Good power!

Agree - but I've had mine in the shop twice as it would not start PERIOD! I have really become a real fan of Stihl products over the last few years and that's why I spent the money this time for what I hoped would be my last chain saw that would last me the rest of my chain sawing days! Yes it runs great NOW and I hope I winterized it perfectly so come the spring storms it will be dependable and fire up like it should!Bellavista52 said:@RRP I just got a Stihl 18" and so far it works great. BTW I rebuilt my 18 year old Stihl BR400 back pack blower myself and it runs like a striped monkey in spite of having countless hours of use, so I'm not lame - I just believe what SGH said that with the government regs maybe they have made this chain saw too prissy rather than to just go rip roaring fast enough to do what chain saws were meant to be used for.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
This popped up on SeriousEats.com. It originally hit the web in 2016 and they have updated it just recently.
