It’s usually tall boys on ice near the registers around here.

Roxanne Kowalski: I was being ironic.
C.D. Bales: Oh, ho, ho, irony! Oh, no, no, we don't get that here. See, uh, people ski topless here while smoking dope, so irony's not really a, a high priority. We haven't had any irony here since about, uh, '83, when I was the only practitioner of it. And I stopped because I was tired of being stared at.

@zaphod, I was about 90% sure about you, but I'm still unclear about the original comment about $400 wine near the register.  Given the price of some of these automobiles, it seems plausible.

I hear you. prices can be silly but sadly i suspect that somewhere out there a $400 bottle is for some people an impulse. I have better things to impulse - hah.

Oh it’s more than plausible!  But maybe a detail or two will clear up why I shared the snippet. Highlands NC is a high net worth resort / vacation home area going back well over 100+ years.  Legendary golfer Bobby Jones dad was a founder of the country club there (they were based in Atlanta).  It’s had as much economic insulation as any other immensely wealthy area around the US.  The elevation is over 4,000 feet. It is “up the mountain” from the northeast corner of Georgia and the two Carolinas which have kept it fed with destination vacationers and free of interstates. When we drive to that area it’s more often for waterfalls and hikes as the shopping is high end.  https://www.highlandschamber.org/articles/post/15-magical-facts-about-highlands/

Around Atlanta fine wine retailers the premium wines are usually in a climate controlled “room”. The store I mentioned has a few long racks of wine. The premium bottles are closest to the register, maybe 5-8 feet away.  My guess would be for security instead of impulse. They are not on the counter there next to advil and altoids.

A friend of mine had one of those for his personal ride freshman year of college. His name was Kelly Love and he called it the Love Mobile.

Porsche has finally released a hybrid 911.  The electric motor(s) are not connected to the drivetrain; its connected to the oversize turbo, so it's constantly spinning, no boost lag (gotta wonder what the life on that turbo is :s ).  Only $196K.

Warmed up, properly oiled/cooled, life may be improved with a more consistent RPM, especially if separated from exhaust gases - cold starts and high revs before properly warmed up kills turbos.

Shutting an engine off before a turbo has spooled down is a good way to burn one up. They continue to spin without oil pressure

This is so true!  My ex-wife immediately revs her twin-turbo V8 Cayenne when she leaves, and rolls in hot and just shuts it off.  I tried to explain to what temp everything needed before high revs and also let it sit for a minute  or two when she pulls in to let it cool down and slow up before she shuts it off.  It didn’t stick.

The “warm up” (as indicated on the temperature read out) on swmbo car is a buzz kill. I’d love to pull out of the driveway and dog the sheet out of it.
