    I tried a convertible model out in a showroom in '18, it's not that small a car but I couldn't really even get into it.

    Yup.  I couldn't even get my 13.5-size foot into a BRZ, and haven't tried a Miata at all.  
    Decades ago I tried an Audi and didn't fit, but in '18 a coworker told me several of his tall friends drove them, tried one out, and they'd enlarged quite a bit over the years.  That's what I'm driving now, and I don't even have the seat all the way back!
