The virus doesn't read any rules.  What matters is people's personal behavior.  Enforcement can influence that, but people are gonna people.

We're in a weird space here in Durham.  Public schools are still online only with no real indication that a change is coming anytime soon.  Restrictions have been slowly lifted to where there are a healthy number of people eating outside downtown on a night when the weather is nice.  Everyone is pretty well masked up just about wherever you go.  

 Locally the pandemic seems reasonably under control in our area, but I suspect we're in for a rude awakening here in the near term if restrictions need to be tightened again because other parts of the state are taking off.  

We have friends who own several bars in town.  They have weathered the storm so far but it's been brutal for them.

With a huge populace believing it's a hoax or just like the flu, I don't see how that would surprise anyone that there *are* people that would take the cruise without a vaccine.

One had symptoms and still went to work at a nursing home killing 6.

One other person had symptoms and still went to work in a prison.

These people would have gotten it somewhere else and still infected people.  They were careless and callus.

Would I have gone to it, no.  Would I have hosted one, no.  Would I have been ok if one of my kids held one, no.

However, I can see them doing it.  It was in August, groups of 50 were ok, so what is a few more.  They also followed recommendations to check temps.  It was all close family and friends, also known as their sphere.  Do I agree, no.  Do I understand how people can convince themselves it was safe, yes.

A local volunteer fire department stopped responding.  (I live in their fire district.) 75% of their staff are positive or are in quarantine.

So sorry to hear that. My younger sister, and her two boys 13 & 15, all have it. They live on the north side of Fort Worth, where apparently it is running rampant.

No boundaries.  That is a tough situation all the way around.  There is no good outcome here unless the volunteers can feel good about making runs again.  Their PPE will mitigate quite a lot but the mind-set may be the biggest challenge.   (Spent many years as a volunteer FF but not in this environment. Sometimes being old is okay.)  Hope it all does not lead to life and property damage.

Worried about my daughter.  She is a respiratory therapist and 10 of her co workers currently have the virus.  So far two of the 10 are hospitalized themselves.  Lives in a county of about 100k and the hospital she works in is full.

I've lived here in utard for a quarter-century now, but I still regard South Dakota as my home state, until age 23.  
Per PBS tonight, one out of 1,600 SD residents are hospitalized.  Not positive, hospitalized.  
I worry so much for my sister, BIL, and only nephew; they're still going to Trivia Night, weekly, sans masks.
