@lousubcap that’s usually my mantra. My wife has been busting my balls recently cause my office is next door do a store in Nashville that does a fantastic job of stocking some usually hard to find bottles.

Unfortunately I’ve got some Co-workers and friends who are big fans of Eh Taylor, the Weller collections, and Eagle Rare so it doesn’t last long around here.
Yes, EH Taylor.  The Colonel is a fine pour.  Single barrel over small batch, but I’ll take either.
    Love you bro!

Ok all you cowboys...I can’t stand to drink room temperature bourbon and I don’t care for the watered down taste from my refrigerator made ice cubes. So if I just refrigerate my preferred bourbon then what should I call it? Is it COLD Neat or CHILLED Neat or just Neat?

@RRP Just got off my big white horse  B) and will offer that "who cares what you call it, like anything you cook if you enjoy it then have at it."  Just to add one more option-toss it into the freezer (it won't freeze) and it will be quite refreshingly neat.
Related, you may want to go with the room temperature pour over a cube then remove the cube a few minutes into the melt.  The water add definitely changes the taste profile, but I'm sure you know that.
Glad you are more active here.  Friday night Zoom session for quite a ride!  Be there!

Are any of y’all Angels Envy fans?
Yes sir, always try to have a bottle on hand now that it seems like it is off allocation.

@RRP I've also seen, but never tried, polished cubes of granite that you keep in the freezer and use as ice cubes. No melting!

  • I'm slowly building my bourbon collection but unfortunately don't have any special/rare bottles yet.  I would love to get some Blanton's, Weller, Stagg, etc but they don't even distribute in Maine unless it's a special barrel purchase from the liquor store.(I'm sure along with everyone else on here, haha).  On the plus side I can always get Eagle Rare and usually get EH Taylor so I can't complain about that!

Usual Suspects. The fall usually calls for some Old Forester 1910 or Woodford Double Oaked.
that McKenna is one of my favorites.  Haven't seen it around here in ages.

on a sad note, even small amounts of brown water seem to screw up my sleep.  my consumption has fallen to near zero.

I use whiskey stones.  They work ok, but not near as good as an ice cube.

I have started to enjoy room temp bourbon and whiskey.  I use ice to mainly mellow out some of the drinks.

Another rabbit hole is artisanal ice.

I’m all in on the directional frozen ice, both spheres and cubes. Artisanal like you said is the way to go.

The problem with all the high end ice makers I have experience with is they don’t make hard ice and it melts too quickly IMO.

I usually drink them at room temp, but I have a silicone tray that makes larger cubes for the particularly harsh stuff, like rye...

I prefer the big ones from the silicone as well.

    Oh the horror!

Google directional freezing. You have trapped air in those cubes which makes them hazy. You can directional freeze real cheap with a small cooler filled 3/4 with the lid removed. Then get a long serrated knife and a mallet. You get a clear slab out of the cooler by removing it before the bottom 1/2 freezes. Then just cut and or chisel it into cubes. Crystal clear. I have some molds with insulation around them but that’s a larger investment.

I prefer to finish my ice in my deep freezer.  Like you said, ice that is not really cold melts too fast.

It’s called Burning Chair.  It’s fairly pricey but I don’t really care for It.   Wish I could sample some of these before buying.   Ha
