The ole dead rodent smell
Looking for tips/tricks. Heat index in Louisiana hit the mid 90’s today. Get in from mowing the lawn, get that unmistakable decomp smell. House is almost 100 years old, about 24” off the ground for half of it. Checked under, no smell. No smell in the attic. Gotta believe it’s in a wall. Got baking soda and white vinegar in every room trying to deoderize the area. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance guys

An air cleaner that has an ozone generator built in. They usually say it’s an UV light because people freak about the ozone. We had to leave one going for about two months when a tenant infested our families rental house with German cockroaches. Mainly because it took that long to finally kill all of them.

I will second @Gulfcoastguy suggestion. I’ve used these machines before and it works great. Left rooms smelling like a spring rain shower once you introduced fresh O2-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

Gonna give this a day or 2 with the vinegar in cups and baking soda. If it gets worse, the wife gonna make me get one of those machines

Now you are probably going to have to use the machines for 15 minutes every day or two till the rodent has completed rotting.

Lump charcoal is pretty good at absorbing odors. Maybe leave a few buckets of lump around. Also, peppermint oil seems to work.Memphis, TN

Peppermint oil can work as a deterrent too. Have a look at a product called Rodent Sheriff

Pull out your refrigerator and check your evaporator tray. Not only can it get funky. We had a little mouse kick the bucket right on tray. Must have picked up some poison close by and came in for water.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas

Found the bastard!! Roof rat. He was below the 90° turn coming off the plenum of one of my AC’s. Smell subsided somewhat. Let’s hope another 24-48 hours and it’s gone
-
Let’s hope he didn’t leave a widow and 12 ratlings in the attic.

Yeah. Just set a 6 pack of snap traps and another 4 of the jaws type. Come and get it

Congratulations on finding the problem. I've had it to where I just had to wait it out because it was somewhere in the wall.XLBGE, LBGE, MBGE, SMALL, MINI, 2 Kubs, Fire Magic Gasser

Mouse will dry up pretty quick in hot weather, if it isn't too humid...

Why I added the if it isn't too humid ! Gets pretty sticky in VA, but not like your area.

My experience with Lousiana, the further north you go, you never get dry, just less wet.
I get it."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber
