NCBB2020 Invitation

NC BUTT BLAST 2020 (aka the BAM BLAST)

Eggheads,

We would like to invite you to the North Carolina Butt Blast 2020 that will be held at Dan Nicholas Park, in Salisbury, NC on Saturday, April 18th from 10am-3pm.  This is a FREE event, we just ask you come hungry. Please be sure to register for the event at this website.  Hold on to your “ticket” this year as it will be used in the drawing that happens at the end of the event when we raffle off all kinds of goodies.

This year Butt Blast is being held in memory of our good friend, Brent Alan Murphy.  Thus the nickname BAM BLAST for 2020.  Brent was the heart and soul of this event in previous years, and as many of you know, he was instrumental last year in helping us raise so much money for charity.  Brent is sorely missed by all of us who knew him, and we will be doing several things in his honor at the Blast this year.

Normally this kick-off thread is posted by @tarheelmatt, but he's still locked out of his account, so he asked that I do the honors this year.  I was happy to oblige, and hope that @The_Buffalo can get in touch with Matt to sort all of that out so that he can continue to post here and tell us about all the fine things he's cooking these days.

But I digress. The BAM Blast is being brought to you by a core group of Eggheads living in the Southeast.  You know the crew, it is the cast of usual suspects, ex-convicts, and degenerates: @DoubleEgger@Jeremiah@JohnInCarolina@JRWhitee@JupiterJim@northGAcock@piney@tarheelmatt@theyolksonyou, and of course @YukonRon.  There is a name for this group and if you don't know what it is yet, well you will just have to come to the BAM Blast to find out what it is.  @YukonRon is our resident bourbon slushy dealer, and all-around t-shirt pro.  If you'd like to order a shirt like the one shown above for this event, Ron has posted info in this thread.

Every year there are Eggheads who attend this and ask how they can help or contribute.  First of all, you can register as a cook! There will be opportunities to cook on Friday night, Saturday during the day, and Saturday night at the after-party.   This year the Friday night and Saturday night get-togethers will be held in a slightly different spot - more details on that later.   There are still cook tickets left so feel free to choose one of those if you’d like to cook at the Blast. Secondly, as in previous years we will have a donation jar out during the day on Saturday, and the entire collection will be donated to a local family in need.  This year we are raising money for the family of a little girl in Granite Quarry, NC, who has been battling  cancer.  I don't know about you but it's hard to imagine a better cause.  In previous years we have raised over one thousand dollars for charity at this event, and we hope that you’ll help us do that again.

Please take a look at the website for the Park (hyperlink above and will post near the end too).  They have a campground that will house campers and RVs as well. There are cabins too, but those may be all booked at this point.  More information about camping in the park is available at this page.

This location includes a shelter that will house 150 people with nearby restrooms. We have reserved "Shelter No.2".  See attached map for location.

A few key notes for this site:

  • The shelter does not have running water

  • The shelter does not have power.

  • Officially no alcohol, however, for the most part our experience has been that if it's controlled and out of sight, all will be okay. Bring your Yeti Rambler!  We had some issues with this last year, but the camp staff (namely Kitty) has assured us that we had a bad crew who've all been shown the door.

  • Gates open from 8am- 7:30pm

  • Technically speaking, generators aren’t permitted due to a noise ordinance in the park.  We have managed to get around this too using ones that aren’t that loud.

Link to Google Maps click HERE.

This site is located in a great location (near Salisbury, Concord, Lexington, Charlotte) where you can stay in a hotel if need be.  Below is a link that will take you to hotels that are nearby in Salisbury.

There are several right along I-85 there in Salisbury that aren't far at all from the park.

If you have any questions, comments, or insulting remarks, please reach out to any of the core Eggheads associated with the BAM Blast.  You can also post them here, and someone usually responds right away.  Otherwise we hope to see you in April!

Are you sure about the shelter not having water?  I seem to remember it having running water last year?

Really?  The closest restroom has running water, but the shelter is not much more than a frame:

Do you have a millennial version of the write-up?

I see the park gates close at 7:30 pm.  For those of us who may be able to attend and have a local hotel room, is there parking just outside said gate, and is the blast site stumbling distance from said gate (</= 3 miles)?

The gates close but there’s a simple lock on them that you can open with the combination. It’s a bit of a pain but you can still get in and out after 7:30.

But you have to maintain the dexterity to handle a combo lock. Find your inner granola and embrace what is really nothing more than a drunken campout.

@Botch I have gone the hotel route the last 2 years and have had to unlock the gate to get out of there both times. And the drive from the hotel to the park is simple enough. These guys put on an incredible event on that Saturday. You won't be disappointed!

Given all this free stuff, maybe we can call it the "Bernie Blast" next year???

Merritt's family also collects beer/drink tabs.

She has collected over 700,000 to date and is trying to break the 1,000,000 mark. If any of you fine people drink a little and don't mind bringing your tabs to the BAM Blast this year it will be use to help her as well.

This is what 700,000 tabs looks like!

    Thanks a million in advance!
