New Orleans Restaurants

I’ll be in New Orleans in a couple weeks for work. Anybody have any good food recommendations? I would prefer to avoid the touristy places and not looking for anything fancy. Any thoughts?

R'evolution is one of my favs.Commander's Palace is usually in the short list of the top restaurants in the world.Antoine's, Brennens, Palace Cafe, Mr B's, there are plenty of institutions with great food. Look at nomenu.com for reviews, or just google. This is a pretty good list:

Thanks. I’ve been to Brennen’s and Mr B’s. Both were great.

Note that crawfish are just coming into season - Clesi's on Bienville does a pretty good job of boiling them (although they are still going to be a little pricey. It's been a tough time for oysters, but this is usually the prime part of the season - Peche, Casamento's, Drago's, Franky and Johnny's (get the pepper rings), Felix's, the Blue Crab and a number of other places have good oyster bars. Also check out Station 6, Rosedale, Meril's (Emeril's more casual place) for some "off the beaten path" restaurants.NOLA

R'evolution is indeed a spectacular place however it definitely doesn't qualify as "not fancy"

I had a great time at Commander's Palace a few years ago. It's upscale but in a retro sort of way. I think the Brennans own it and many of the other high-end restaurants in town.South of Nashville - BGE XL - Alfresco 42" ALXE - Alfresco Versa Burner - Sunbeam Microwave

One of my favorite old classic New Orleans restaurants is Mandina's on Canal. It never disappoints, I highly recommend Mandina's.
Another great one is Jack Dempsy's for seafood
Station 6 in Bucktown is one of my favorite new restaurants. In fact I recently ordered their soft shelled crab, It was as good as I've ever eaten.

I’ve been to Cochon also and like it. Booked a lunch reservation there already because last time we couldn’t get in the door at lunch.

Ruby Slipper, Irenes, dont waste your time at Mothers. The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

Solid advice there. Run up the tab, they’re expecting it.

Legume said:Ron, why won’t you re-gasket Canada? Why do you hate Canada? Now to be precise though...in 18 years of providing my break even service without payment in advance I have only been stiffed 3 times! Year before last was a pathetic jerk in Indianapolis named Wes Johnson. Then in 2019 I got screwed twice...both were shipments to jerks in Canada!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time!
