If I were in market for an offset right now, I’d buy a Yoder (loaded Wichita or Kingman) and have a welding shop mod it to draft correctly. They are built like a tank, cheap, and quick delivery.  Just need a few “tweaks” to the stack assembly (copy Franklins) to make it a sweet cooker.  Their stack connection seems to be designed for easy production welding, vs correct drafting control.

Academy will ship a Pecos to all states except Hawaii and Alaska. Prop65 doesn't stop them from sending one to Cali.

That's funny because elsewhere on the page for the grill they say they will ship to all states except AK and HI. Oh well.

It's a wonder how makers like NorCal Ovenworks seem able to slap a sticker on their grills made/sold in Cali. :)

I think they can actually sell without the sticker but it opens you up to a litigation nightmare..........The plus side for the ones sliding under the table is I saved a chunk on sales tax as there is no way they are going to report that,on my order that saved around $600.00

True, a "sticker" or on product labeling is not required. Products can just have any needed warnings available at the point of sale but I can see why it would be wise not to rely on a minimum wage store clerk placing the warning  on the proper store shelf. :)

Let's not forget that one still needs to learn/know how to cook with an offset. It ain't gonna cook by itself.

You could have the "best" smoker in the world, but it's just a big lawn ornament if you don't know what to do with it.

  • But learning how to cook on this offset sounds like learning how to drive in a Ferrari. If one is to learn, this sounds like a great way to do it  B)

I was going to say the same thing, but it sounds weird when I say it.

I am having a heck of a time with my BGEs. If I even think about adding another cooker to the collection @$3500 (#7) my next major purchase will be a real comfortable couch.
I still am getting my Medium though.
Our present couch is good enough to get through that purchase.
