Lowes---Cowboy Lump Sale

Don't know if any of you have it going on in your area, but here in Jax the new Lowes sale ad had Cowboy lump on sale.  I normally do not use Cowboy Lump because the Home Depot two miles from the house doesn't carry it, but had used it in the past.  Once upon a time, when I used to go to Charlotte Shout competitions, Cowboy was just starting up and sold their lump for $2 a bag.  I've bought a few through the years, but not a lot. But I couldn't pass this deal.

@johnmitchell  LOL...thanks for the welcome.  I've lurked for a while.  I've seen the lump debates (or crucifixions) in the past.  I started to not post it, but it's a good deal.  You get it hot enough...it's not that bad. Maybe  :s

Are you planning to cremate the wife?
  • Ha ha. I knew this was going sideways in a hurry. I saw someone on Reddit post a pickup load full on one of the smoking forums and he got savaged by the lump snobs there too. Lotta hate for the Cowboy Lump out there!

If you thought religion, politics and gender affiliation were off-limits, you just waded into the biggest swamp on this board.  Lump is the fuel and the debates about who's lump is bigger and better is fun to watch.
Always remember, it all burns-some with more baggage than others.  FWIW-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Selling it for $4/bag before the biggest grilling day of the year tells you everything you need to know.

Also, never trust online review ratings. 250 folks are smoking crack.

I forgot my manners... Welcome aboard, @WVsmokin ! The natives are (mostly) friendly

There's likely a good bit of "legacy" hate for Cowboy, because they used to make charcoal out of floor trim scraps and such. They sort of revamped their operation some years ago and started using real  tree bits, after which many claim that the quality improved.

If you just need heat it would be fine. I wouldn’t cook MY food over it. But maybe to start an offset - let it burn away before you add your food... I might use it to start a fire in a fire pit or on my paella rig. I just would not allow smoke from that lump to touch my food.

Rockwood all the way. When I saw the title to this post, I thought to myself, who cares if it’s on sale-it’s still crap lump. I’ve never tried it, but at that price, I would buy at least ten bags. Killer deal.

I expect a certain amount of rocks in my bag of lump.  However, I found a  piece of plastic strapping and the lump consisting of obvious lumber cutoffs were enough for this cowboy.

  • Most of these folks claiming they would not eat food cooked over Cowboy is fibbing. Because most of them drink. So just use the Cowboy after dark, the drunks will eat it and the night will camouflage the Cowboy.

I do not know if they make that much tequila to mask that flavor......

The lowes by me didn't have it on sale, but I do use it.  My buddy says the taste is terrible but I haven't found that to be true.  I'm working on a taste test of sorts now

    Tru dat.
I was raised on pinto beans and cornbread. So meat with Cowboy smoke probably won’t ruin my day. But I don’t buy Cowboy cause I don’t have to.  Rockwood is hard to get here, had to drive 20 miles out of my way to an Ace to pick up 3 bags last week. On company time  =)
