No, don't regret it. WAY back in the mid '80's I was approached about "climbing the ladder" . My dear wife told me she would support any decision I chose to make. She also told me I couldn't keep my big mouth shut when my superiors rolled out the latest and greatest BAD decision, and we would get transferred to Barefoot MS. Although when my disfunctional company did such a thing it was always with a raise in pay and benefits , go figure.

OMG, we "the workers not management " had the same saying when they came to us with their hair on fire. Somehow they didn't think it was funny.

I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it’s like to feel absolutely worthless and they don’t want anyone else to feel like that.

If guest stayed at my grandparents house late into the evening my grandfather would finally stand up, undo his belt and say "Margie, we better let these nice people head home before they start to impose". I always got a kick outa that.

Botch- I feel your pain, since I just retired from a company managed by "good ol' boys" also. The Staff were all my age, and have been VP's for 40 years.  I worked my way up the ladder by spending 20 years in the field, and 20+ in management. My downfall was the older I got, the more critical i was of the Staff.  I busted balls at most meetings in the past few years, to the point of being somwhat "abusive" to several of them. They made poor decisions that wasted millions of dollars. My wife asked if I got fired after every meeting, as she knew how I talked to them. It kind of got fun in the past year, and most of them went out of their way to avoid me.  I told 2 to of the VP"s that if I won the lottery, I would buy the comapny and fire them! LOL.

I retired at 62 (instead of 65) because it wasn't fun anymore.  Loved working with my crews, and still do lunch with them once in a while.  But don't have the Corporate headaches to deal with. HR wanted to have my retirement party on my last day, but I told them "no thanks", turned in my vehicle, credit cards, security badge (wiped my cell phone), formated my laptop, and left the building at 5:00 on that Friday.

    No regreats.  Love retirement.
