I don't think anyone is accepting this because scientist proclaimed this to be so. It's closer to 100% of climate scientists have proclaimed it to be factual than it is to 90%. So you want to wait to address the issue until it actually is 100% of climate scientists? Not prudent.

You got me there. I mean they only deal in facts right, Not THEORIES.

I didn’t attack his intelligence.  Me asking him to learn to think critically is not an attack.  I am assuming that he can learn to do that and would like to as well.  Otherwise he wouldn’t be asking me for source material.

Pointing out that a press release and an op-ed are not scientific reports is not necessarily attacking someones intelligence.

I don't understand why we aren't putting more effort into capitalize on the (future) economic powerhouse of renewables.  Battery tech is the only thing holding us back

The developing world was able to completely leapfrog telecommunications infrastructure once cellular tech was available.  They will do the same with a power-grid once batteries will allow for effective localized storage of energy. Somebody has to sell it to them. Might as well be us.

Jesus man I really didn’t mean anything derogatory by including the “lay person” thing. All I meant by that phrase is that it’s written for people who don’t necessarily have a background in climate science.  That is a fairly commonly used term in the sciences.

As for my own education I do tend to know much more about climate science than many people with advanced degrees.  It’s not so much due to the degrees I hold but rather my experience in a civil and environmental engineering department where these things are routinely discussed.  There is a climate related scientific seminar here about once a month.  I also serve as a member of ASCAC, which is the Department of Energy’s strategic computing committee.  On that committee I literally review ongoing climate science and modeling/simulation efforts at the national laboratories.

Anyway... we have temperature measurements going back a century.  Beyond that what we have are proxy data.  This is data that can be used to infer (with a reasonable degree of uncertainty) as to what the temperatures have been dating back centuries, in fact millenia.  In other words, we can reconstruct the temperature record with some degree of confidence.
Is there a graph of the 'proxy data' over a long period of time (thousands of years)? We have a lot of abandoned historic sites here in the UK where analysis shows that they were viable for agriculture a few thousand years ago because the climate was much warmer then. How does this fit with current temperatures / projected rises?

Definitely not putting yourself on a podium right John? :)  y'all just get back to me when the average global temp raises by 25 degrees =)
