I was involved in something similar in college.

I found that cocaine and amphetamines were like crack for frat boys and sorority girls.  It turned partying and hanging out into sales opportunities.  My product was well researched and improved the quality of lives, but only temporarily.  I established a good down line and my down line established good downlines., increasing my sales twenty-fold quickly.

I realized it was time to have a going out of business sale when about 6 weeks into a semester 2 new 'students' showed up in a 12 student grad level course and began aggressively seeking to purchase large quantities of product.

LuLaRoe is one MLM that was popular recently. They make women's leggings and such. My fiance was buying them from a couple of her friends. Mediocre quality, high price point, limited options. 

Both of her friends have stopped selling it and both of them lost money in the process. Add in they would broadcast their sales and how much pandering is involved and it is embarrassing

Why even consider buying something that someone decides to introduce you to?
The people that hawk these products always hit up friends and relatives. When they run out of friends and relatives they just change products.
 One lady in my neighborhood has changed products at least 4 times always approaching the same gullible people. Always bragging about how much she is making selling a product to entice others to be her feeder chain.

A friend of mine from work, we are still friends, sold me on USANA vitamins. The product was good but I was not comfortable trying to sell friends and family to buy in. The only ones that are making money are the ones at the top of the pyramid.
