The big problem with the wind resistance of manufactured buildings is they do not have foundations.  So they use straps and screw stakes.  But that's no substitute for a cement slab or pilings when it comes to high winds.

With all the rain/flooding they're calling for in the Carolina's it may well cause a lot of those hog farm waste lagoons to overflow/breach and drain into rivers and sounds. Won't be the first time.

Every so often Mother Nature produces a storm so powerful that it reminds us just how small and insignificant we really are. Unless you feel like testing out the structural Integrity of your home I would suggest leaving if they told you to leave. Because when you're whining and crying sitting on your roof with nowhere to go Emergency Services shouldn't have to put their ass on the line because of your dumbass!

You can't say that they haven't tried to mitigate the damage. They have strapped the roof down to screw anchors, boarded up the windows and door, and packed to evacuate. Hopefully they are on high enough ground. Best of luck to them.

idk in college we used to do that for parties.  the apartment had access to the basement in it and we could use them as coolers and keep everything cold it worked well.  the industrial ones like we had would hold a keg if you removed the agitator

That idea is fine under normal circumstances. In an emergency situation, you’re trying to preserve resources. The water in a cooler keeps it colder. The water can be used for other purposes. Letting it go down the drain in an emergency is just plain dumb.  Also, other than milk, keeping drinks cold is a luxury not a necessity. 

The water isn't going to just go down the drain unless you turn on the washer, it will still be in the tub if you wanted to keep the water for other potential uses.

Shows you how much I use the washing machine...

I meant the storm in general just sitting on North Carolina dumping rain like it Harvey did.

I remember this house in a Laguna Beach fire a couple decades ago. Fellow built his house with concrete which didn't please the neighbors and was the only house in the 400 house neighborhood to survive. Never did learn if, when the neighborhood rebuilt, more homes were made from concrete.

We go through Jacksonville and right by the main entrance to Camp Lejune when we’re back and forth to the beach. It was pretty quiet there this morning; they all must be hunkering down, sheltering in place, so to speak. At about 20 miles east of there, we regularly hear them practicing. Sometimes it shakes all the windows... Glad they’re there!

YBYA!  Kentuckians are salt of the earth and I just wish I could be there to help.  Bet those lucky Marines wished they were one month later so they could experience Keeneland.  Truly Magical.  Glad the heroes found safe ground.
